Plane Spotter Alert: Lufthansa Bringing New Livery To Seoul On Feb 26 To Pick Up German Olympic Team

To bring the successful German Olympic Team home in style, Lufthansa has dispatched their 747-8i (D-ABYA) to Seoul.    Lufthansa flight LH713 scheduled for February 26 will fly the team home and at the same time bring the new look of Lufthansa to Seoul for the first time.  If you recall, D-ABYA is the one of the first LH aircraft to sport the new livery design.

Normally, passengers and spotters in Seoul see the 747-400 during this time of year so the regardless of the paint on the plane, seeing the 748 in ‘ICN’ will be a treat for those of us who enjoy this kind of thing!

If you happen to be at the games or at least in Seoul and want to get a glimpse of the bird, the flight is scheduled to depart Seoul (ICN) at 1:05p and is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt at 4:45p. If you want to catch her arriving in Seoul earlier on Monday, she’s due to land at 8:50a.

LUFTHANSA’s New Livery Shows Up On First Regional Jet……

Late last week, Lufthansa’s first regional jet came out of the paint hangar carrying the new livery.

A Cityline CRJ900, registered as D-ACNM, came back from her scheduled maintenance break and re-entered service at her base in Munich.    Another 37 aircraft are scheduled to be painted by year’s end, including one A380.

I’ll be publishing a schedule later this week showing the current calendar for the repaints.     In most cases, the painting will happen as part of an aircraft’s ‘D’ maintenance check which the most intensive of all the checks that aircraft go through.

VIDEO Of Lufthansa’s D-ABYA Taking Off From Frankfurt Wearing The New Livery

On February 8, Lufthansa’s D-ABYA took off from Frankfurt for a day-long tour of German airports to show off the new livery design unveiled by the airline earlier in the week.

I was fortunate enough to be part of a photographer group that received special permission to be on the infield of the airport to catch her taking off.   This video captures the moments that she pulled away from Frankfurt.

As you watch the video, you’ll hear a slighty annoying ‘machine gunning’ noise.    That is my camera’s shutter going off while I was taking pictures.  I had a Go-Pro mounted on my flash-shoe so that I could take photos and capture video at the same time.

Enjoy!
