Over the past months Lufthansa has been ramping up the installation of their new Business Class cabin throughout the 100+ long-haul aircraft in the fleet.
In all, 24 aircraft currently have the new Business Class cabin, including ALL 11 747-8i aircraft. Additionally, 4 A340 and 9 A330 aircraft have been retrofitted with the new cabin. Of the 9 A330s, 3 of them have been recent deliveries with the new cabin already installed by Airbus while 6 were retrofitted by Lufthansa Technik.
The first A380 to have the new business class seat is currently going through the retrofit and is expected to re-enter service at the end of March. Additionally a new A380, D-AIMK, will be joining the fleet with the new seats already installed so we’ll see 2 A380s with the new seats beginning March 30.
To help you determine whether or not your flights will have the new Business Class cabin, here is a list of the tail numbers that currently have it installed:

What about LH 425 BOS-MUC in July? The website says “NEW” for the latest date I could check: May 26th.
does anyone know if FRA – DFW normally operates with the new J seat?
Not ‘normally’ as only 9 of 15 A330s have the new J and lot of that is focused to MUC. When are your travels?
Thanks for that – Its looking like it will operate. LH have just added http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Business-Class-Product which shows which routes operate. Fingers crossed. The old seat is terrible and liked the new one very much. Although AA’s new J seat does surpass it……
Glad to hear. Not knowing your travel dates, I didn’t want to tell you about that ‘app’ page that LH has because it still subject to last minute equipment swaps. the new J is a world of difference from the old! Enjoy!
The old seat is better than the new. The new hasnt enough space for feet (narrow at the end)
You really think so? (meant with respect!) I agree that the foot area is narrower, but having a seat that goes full flat, with a better IFE offering is an upgrade from the previous seat.
IFE better – its true, but prefer a sleep in long flight. Ok, almost every flight – often sleep during take-off 🙂
In any case, very disturbed me tight legroom. Delta has a similar lie flat, herring bone style business elite, but much better legroom.
I am Flying MAA-FRA LH759 connecting to PHL LH426 on Apr 14th…. and Return same route on APR 24th… Any way to know if i would have a new business class? Thanks
A little to early to tell, however PHL is less likely to see the new C as compared to places like ORD or NYC. Ask me about a week out and I should be able to tell you if you have new C
I have plans to take the Orlando-Frankfurt flight in October. Any luck that I will be in the new business class?
Way to early to tell. If they keep the 744 on the route, then odds are low. Right now, still showing 744 on the route.
