My wife just forwarded an email to me she received from United stating that effective March 2, 2012 United will no longer be offering Premier Baggage or the Economy Plus annual purchase option. They will also stop selling one-time United Club Passes online.
Here is the image capture from her email:
Hopefully they will never sell an E+ Subscription, its already hard as a Premier to get a E+ seat and they are reducing our bags down to one bag. It sucks for the United club passes though.
@Chris: With the combination of fleets into one airline, Economy Plus is no longer going to be available fleetwide. They have a lot of retrofitting to do with Continental aircraft. I’m sure they don’t want to deal with an unending litany of complaints from people who don’t grasp the concept of fleet integration; people who will say that they “weren’t able to get what they paid for”. It makes good sense to do this until the product is in line. They can also control E+ better by selling it by the flight as a travel option at purchase or after.
@steve…excellent points!
Wonder if they plan to roll out a credit card with the Economy Plus feature built in.
I’m surprised they’re doing it. Even if it costs them a few bucks on bag fees/economy plus buy-ups, it creates a bit of loyalty to United for nonelites. Think: “Why fly AA if you know you can book economy plus on UA for no marginal cost?”
@Kris – so far this applies to online purchases so I assume you can still buy it “at the door”.
Will they still be selling one time passes at the United Clubs?
