SWISS Delays 777 Service To Bangkok & Updates Hong Kong Frequency

I know for some of you that your travel plans are occasionally dictated by what aircraft will fly the route.   I know I do it.

So in that spirit, here is a brief update on a small revision issued by SWISS concerning their 777 flying to Bangkok.   Originally the aircraft was to debut on the route on July 8 but has now been set back to July 15.   Only a week, but if that is your week, you might not be a happy camper.

As far as Hong Kong is concerned, the 777 is set to debut as scheduled on April 10, but initially it will not fly the route everyday.    Between April 10 and May 1, the 777 will only fly from Zurich on Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays.     Between May 2 and May 19, the 777 will fly on Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays.    However on May 20 the 777 will begin flying to Hong Kong on a daily basis.

Plan accordingly! 🙂

SWISS’ New 777 – Photos, Photos, and More Photos!

Last week was an especially busy one for SWISS.

Not only did they open 3 brand-new lounges inside of Zurich’s ‘E’ Concourse, they also took delivery of their first Boeing 777.

Most of you are probably aware of the delivery and may have seen some of the ‘official’ photos.   However I think there may be a few shots in here that might be new to you.    A friend of mine, Ralf (RCS) from ‘VielFliegerTreff’ kindly shared his photos from his visit to Zurich to specifically tour the 777 as well as to see the new lounges.    You’ll see below that his photos go beyond the basic ‘vanity shots’ and take a detailed look at the aircraft’s interior and cabins.  I’ll let the shots tell the rest of the story!

If you missed the Lounge Photos, click HERE for the SENATOR LOUNGE and click HERE for the FIRST CLASS LOUNGE.

SWISS’ First 777 Goes Home Today!

SWISS’ First 777 Goes Home Today!

SWISS has signed on the dotted line earlier this morning and has taken delivery of their first 777.

Later this afternoon, ‘HB-JNA’ will depart Paine Field in Washington at 1:35p (local PAE time) and head for Zurich where she’ll be greeted with a bit of fanfare over the next few days.   This is the first of 9 777 aircraft that SWISS is set to receive.

For those of you wishing to check in on her flight, you can track it as flight LX7771.

Earlier today, SWISS published a couple of photos of their new 777 while it was still sitting in the paint hangar in Portland last week.

So far the plane is on track for a late January / early February delivery.   As I mentioned in a previous post, they’re not done with the livery yet.    SWISS will be applying a graphic over the rear half of the fuselage to commemorate SWISS’ heritage and people.

Thanks to poor weather conditions in the Paine Field area, the return of SWISS’ first 777 from the paint shop in Portland was delayed by a day.  In fact, the plane was forced to land at Boeing Field in Seattle thanks to how quickly weather deteriorated at PAE.  It would spend the night at BFI before flying to Paine the next morning.

Here is a shot from the first moments after the aircraft arrived in Paine Field on January 5.  A big thanks to Jennifer Schuld for sharing her photo.    Jen is an active spotter at Paine Field and you can see her other great photos on twitter (@JenSchuld).  She literally has new content almost every day!

Nevertheless, she is finally at Paine where she will undergo final preparations ahead of being handed over to SWISS in the coming weeks.

However, the paint and graphics work is not quite finished.    To mark the occasion, SWISS will be applying a unique graphic to the fuselage that will make it even ‘more’ SWISS.

The graphic was designed to showcase the SWISS heritage and will be a film that will be applied to the fuselage once the aircraft arrives in Zurich.     This livery will be unique to this 777.

Over the coming months, SWISS will be introducing their 777s primarily on domestic European routes which will allow for their crews to train and become acclimated with the aircraft before they start flying their long haul routes.
