Lufthansa Cargo 777F Arrives In Frankfurt On November 1 – Enter Contest To Be There!

Lufthansa Cargo 777F Arrives In Frankfurt On November 1 – Enter Contest To Be There!

Lufthansa Cargo’s 1st 777 Freighter has just been painted in Portland, Oregon and is receiving her finishing touches at Paine Field in Everett, Washington.   She’s scheduled to arrive home on November 1 to join the fleet and to mark the occasion Lufthansa Cargo is running a contest that will allow 10 lucky winners to attend the ceremonies.

The contest is being held on their Facebook Page and entry requirements are fairly simply.   All you have to do is submit a 1-minute video or a creative “Selfie” (Picture of yourself) showing why YOU should be one of the winners.   Hopefully Miley Cyrus stays away from posting any photos here…. 😉

You need to post your photo or video on Lufthansa Cargo’s Facebook Wall or send it to them via personal message on Facebook.  You have until October 23 to enter.   The 10 winners as determined by LH Cargo will be invited to attend.

Please note that you must arrange your own travel to and from Frankfurt as well as accommodations while in Frankfurt.   LH Cargo is only providing an invitation to the event.

Good Luck!

LUFTHANSA CARGO Completes Satcom Installation

LUFTHANSA CARGO Completes Satcom Installation

Lufthansa Cargo has announced that it has completed the installation of SATCOM-based navigation equipment in its entire fleet of MD-11 Freighters.

SATCOM is shorthand for Satellite Communications and is designed to be far more effective and efficient than previous generations of navigation technology.   SATCOM allows airlines to plan more direct ‘point to point’ routes rather than using ‘airways’ when it comes to flight planning.   As an example, Lufthansa Cargo suggests that SATCOM will save them 2,000 tons of fuel and 6,300 tons of C02 emissions just on their Hong Kong – Guangzhou – Alamty route segment each year.

SATCOM installation had begun in 2012 and the final installation was completed in July.   SATCOM will also be installed on all Boeing 777 Freighters that Cargo is set to begin receiving later this year.

Lufthansa Cargo Updates Boeing 777F Delivery and Routes

Lufthansa Cargo has announced (confirmed) that it will receive its first Boeing 777F sometime in October and have it enter service in November.

Initially it appears that the aircraft will serve Cargo routes in the US, including New York (JFK), Chicago and Atlanta.

I’m looking forward to being in Frankfurt for the events surrounding the official delivery of their latest bird!

Lufthansa Cargo Unveils it’s “planet” App

Lufthansa Cargo has released a new ‘app’ to compliment it’s award winning ‘planet’ magazine    The app takes the magazine to new levels with fantastic multimedia enhancements that provide insights into Lufthansa Cargo’s business as well as the Air Cargo industry in general.   In their press release,  LH Cargo’s Director of Communications, Matthias Eberle, added that “Our aim is to give customers a closer and more immediate experience of exciting developments at our Company”.   The new app does a great job of delivering on that objective.

If you are not familiar with Lufthansa Cargo’s multimedia efforts, I would strongly suggest that you visit their dedicated YouTube channel that has a great selection of videos of Lufthansa Cargo operations.   Some of my favorites are the videos taken in the cockpit during flights to LH Cargo destinations.   The YouTube channel is a ‘must-see’ if you are fan of aviation or an ‘avgeek’.

Additionally, they have a strong presence on Facebook with content that is usually updated daily.   The content covers posts about unique Cargo, features on employees and stories about their destinations along with special features from their pilots.

Visit Lufthansa Cargo’s website for more information on ‘planet’ and for the appropriate links for the new app.

LUFTHANSA CARGO Selected Best International Freight Carrier

Lufthansa Cargo has earned  yet another award for it’s “Trophy Case” when the Airforwarders Association presented ‘LH’ Cargo with it’s International Freight Airline award.   The award was announced at the Airforwarders Association’s “AIR CARGO 2013” event held in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Customer service, on-time performance, reliability and security were the criteria that was factored into determining the winner.

On hand to accept the award for Cargo was Achim Martinka, VP The Americas, who thanked the group the group on behalf of LH Cargo:   “This accolade is a great reward for the daily efforts put in by  our team – and, moreover, a huge incentive to continue working on further improvement of our services and performance“.

This is the third time that the award has been presented, with Lufthansa Cargo winning it twice.

For those of you not familiar with Lufthansa Cargo, they are one of the world’s largest Air Cargo carriers who’s route network spans the globe.   Lufthansa Cargo reaches 300 destinations in 100 countries with its fleet of MD-11 aircraft along with the ability to send cargo on board Lufthansa and Austrian passenger aircraft.

For you “avgeeks” out there, Lufthansa Cargo has done a spectacular job in providing fans with great behind the scenes access to pilots, destinations and their aircraft.   Their presence on FaceBook and their dedicated channel on YouTube offers great information, video and photos.

I had the rare opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of Lufthansa Cargo including their cargo warehouses in Frankfurt as well as being on board on an MD-11 Freighter as it was being loaded for it’s flight.   You can see my posts on this visit here:
