Over the last few years I’ve become somewhat partial to Hyatt properties and seek them out as my first choice whenever I travel. Recently, one of my favorite properties announced a great new amenity for their guests.
The Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon / Hong Kong has recently begun providing their guests with complimentary use of smartphones during their stay. The phones provide unlimited access to the internet, a Hong Kong City Guide and unlimited calling to the USA, Singapore, Australia, the UK and China.
After staying at Hyatt Properties around the world including Istanbul, London, Singapore, Dubai and Hamburg (next month), this Hyatt property thus far remains my favorite – both for location and quality of staff and product.
One logistic that always seems to create additional expense and stress for travelers is being able to stay connected with your own phone when abroad. If you’re not careful, it’s easy to run up hundreds of dollars in roaming data and voice charges with minimal effort. With this new program, it’s one less thing to worry about.
Among all the amenities that hotels offer such as complimentary bottles of wine and fruit plates, lounge access, etc., this in my opinion ranks among the best perk that can be offered to hotel guests. It’s functional and practical…..much more so than a plate of cheese and turn down service! 🙂
This is a really big deal. My Verizon Iphone5 did not connect to any service while in Hong Kong last year, tho it did fine in China and Tibet on the same trip. I wound up buying a cheap GSM phone and SIM card at a local shop and checked email on the loaner iPad at the Marriott club.
In Hong Kong, would you pick this Hyatt property vs the Grand Hyatt? Planning a trip, and now with this very cool addition, making it definitely seem worth a look!
Tough question! The Grand is the ‘finer’ property with some great amenities. I’ve stayed there a couple of times and loved it. The reason I like the Regency is that it is more convenient to transportation and neighborhoods. When you stay at the Grand, you have a fairly healthy walk to a train stop or would need to take a cab. The Regency is in the middle of a great neighborhood and has a main train stop literally across the street.
I have a stay coming up this weekend. Looking forward to trying out this property for the first time.
Enjoy! It’s fantastic, and the local neighborhood is full of great food and shopping. Let me know if you need any tips!
Last year I stayed at The Mira and they gave out a non smart phone that was still very helpful.
This year I am traveling with 2 teenagers. Any recommendations for dumpling or noodle shops nearby?
The best places that I have found near by are Tsui Wah which is a chain, but they have a great variety of options (Noodles, dumplings, rice dishes) and are always busy and full of locals (2 things that I look for when trying a new place), Then there is ‘cyber coffee restaurant’. It’s located next to the ONE mall on Carnavron Rd, near kimberley st. Bright red/white striped awning gives it away. Good dim sum, but even better goose! Inside the mall that’s attached to the hotel you’ll have a good meal at Empire City Roasted Duck – its on one of the upper floors. Fantastic and properly served Peking Duck. There is also an alley full of good stands for noodles and skewered items. When you walk out of the hotel, make a left, when you get to the corner, cross the street to the right, staying on the right hand side, walking by the watch shop. You’ll know your going right if you see a liquor store on your left. Make the next right going away from the liquor store which will take you up a narrow alley that has several good stops along the way. I don’t have specific names since I can’t read the writing. Let smells and pictures guide you! 🙂
I second Tsui Wah! I wish we had one in NYC. I love that place. I highly recommend it. Get the baked dishes, milk tea, curry dishes, egg tarts if you go. You can’t go wrong with a traditional HK meal.
Do you have a review/trip report of this property? My wife and I will be staying here over New Years on the club level and are extremely excited!
I used to but it got deleted when I migrated my site back to boarding area. I’ve stayed in the club room levels 6 or 7 times, so if you have any questions etc, please feel free to ask!
