Star Alliance carrier US Airways announced today during a media briefing in Phoenix that they will expand WiFi coverage to include their Embraer family of regional jets.
This includes the E-190,175 and 170 Regional Jets. Availability will also increase on their narrow body jets as well. According to US Air, 74 ERJ’s will be outfitted by the middle of this year and 209 of their A320s and A319s will see WIFI by the middle of 2013.
I’m hoping that United follows this example. My 136 mile (or is it 131 under their original plan) long haul between GRR and ORD is dreadfully boring and having the internet available for 15 minutes would go a long way to improve cabin comfort!

In case you have forgotten or are reading this for the first time, LUFTHANSA is kicking off a Sweepstakes on March 22 that will award a lucky winner 2 tickets aboard the first 747-8i flight. It will most likely be Frankfurt to ?????????. How’s that for accuracy?
As I’ve said before, my money is on Frankfurt(FRA)-New York(JFK) if only because this 747 carries the same registration (D-ABYA) as the first ever Lufthansa 747 carried over 40 years ago. The first D-ABYA had made her debut on the Frankfurt-New York route. Being sentimental, I hope Lufthansa recreates that special moment.
For details on the sweepstakes and to sign up for the alert, please visit Lufthansa’s Sweepstakes Page.
You’ll be able to register your email address today, and they will let you know tomorrow when the Sweepstakes officially has opened. Should you win the tickets, remember who made it all possible for you…I make a great traveling companion! 🙂
