In part two of this multi-part series covering my recent trip to the Dulini Private Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands region of South Africa, I’ll share the images that I was fortunate to capture showing a Leopard and her prey. We found this Leopard, known to the locals as Xikavi with her prized Impala that she hunted successfully, nestled safely in a tree. Leopards will typically ‘tree’ the carcass of their victim in order to protect themselves and the meat from opportunistic parasites such as Hyenas and Wild Dogs. Since Hyenas and Dogs hunt and travel in packs, a Leopard would be no match and would be risking her own life in protecting the carcass. You’ll see below how a Hyena stands ready to benefit from any scraps that would fall from the tree.
Fair Warning…..The images below are quite candid and show in detail how a Leopard feasts on the carcass and they may not be for everyone. These images were caught at last light using a Nikon D800 and a Sigma 150-500 (which proved to be a brilliant combo for the Safari). Fortunately the camera’s bells and whistles really helped maximize the moment. For you pixel-peepers, I did not do much with noise reduction in order to save time and the get photos ready for this post.
I leave the captions to you…..

The opportunistic Hyena is waiting for any scraps…you’ll notice a small bit behind her left shoulder…..

by Lufthansa Flyer | Nov 20, 2014 | Business Class, Contests, Featured, Swiss |
It’s always a great contest when Business Class Tickets are the prize and this time it is SWISS who is giving away a pair of Business Class tickets from the USA to Switzerland.
The contest includes a 1 night stay at Schloss Schauenstein where you will also dine at their 3 Michelin Star restaurant. After that experience, you’ll be whisked off to Rockresort where you’ll spend an additional 3 nights. You’ll also receive a pair of Swiss Rail passes to help you get around.
To enter, visit the contest’s entry page where you’ll need to provide your contact info along with a brief statement as to why you would like to dine at Schloss Schauenstein. As part of the process, you can gain additional entries by inviting your Facebook friends to enter. Should any of them enter, you’ll get another entry for yourself.

by Lufthansa Flyer | Nov 19, 2014 | Fare Sale, Featured, Lufthansa, Premium Economy |
To promote the introduction of Lufthansa’s new Premium Economy cabin, they’re offering a ‘farely’ attractive sale from Germany to destinations worldwide. The destinations are limited to those that will feature the new seat but the fare sale is good for travel well into 2015 and 2016.
These fares are only a bit higher that typical economy fares but with the new Premium Economy seat you’ll have far more leg room, a more comfortable seat, enhanced catering, special luggage allowance and even an amenity kit! To learn more about the features and benefits, please visit this excellent interactive tool that Lufthansa has launched that provides all the details that you’ll need.
The fare covers flights from most German originating cities to Bangkok, Beijing, Bengaluru, Bogota, Boston, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Delhi, Denver, Detroit, Hong Kong and Houston and several others. You’ll notice that not every Premium Economy destination is included in this sale. This is due to the fact that some routes will not see the new seat until well into 2015 and there could be adjustments to that timeline.
Fares range from as low as €999 (Frankfurt – Delhi) to as much as €1499 (Frankurt – Nagoya or Osaka).
The fare sale continues until December 9, 2014, however there are unique terms and conditions based on your destination:
North America: This fare is NOT AVAILABLE for travel between June 27 and August 30, 2015.
Africa, Asia, South America: Minimum stay is 6 days.
Middle East: Minimum stay is 6 days OR a Saturday or Sunday.
Otherwise, departures must take place between November 22, 2014 and October 31, 2015 while return travel must take place between November 23, 2014 and January 31, 2016.
Additionally, you must purchase your ticket at least 1 day prior to departure (No last minute surcharge apparently). The maximum stay for this fare is 90 days.
LH does not usually provide such an open ended fare sale where travel can be planned out all the way to 2016 and I think it is a safe bet that these kind of fares sales for Premium Economy will be few and far between based on the occupancy projections that Lufthansa is forecasting for the product.
