Below is a Reuters article dated 17 December 2011 discussing an unexpected delay in additional 787 deliveries to Star Alliance Carrier ANA. Looks like the routes that will be immediately affected are Tokyo-Beijing and Tokyo-Frankfurt.
All Nippon Airways, the first operator of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner said it will postpone the start of 787 service on some international routes because of a delay in receiving another aircraft.
In a statement posted on its website on Thursday, the Japanese carrier blamed a “productivity reason” at Boeing for the delay. The airline said it would delay 787 service between Tokyo and Beijing and between Tokyo and Frankfurt.
The Beijing route was scheduled to start in December, but has been rescheduled for January.
“ANA regrets to take the precaution of amending international flight plans. ANA will continue urgent negotiations with Boeing to deliver the 787 as early and as close to the original schedule as possible,” the company said.
Boeing said the delay resulted from a minor wiring problem on three planes that was spotted during a standard walk-through by the Federal Aviation Administration.
A Boeing spokeswoman said the issue was not widespread and that the matter has been resolved.
“As always we are working closely with our customer to minimise the impact and expect to deliver this airplane as quickly as possible,” she said.
….notwithstanding anything herein, we will keep flying the existing planes. We’re sure everything will be alright with them….
I waited a year to fly the 380…consciously avoiding it twice when I was flying routes that it served…will do the same here.
(of course, the qf uncontained engine failure happened well after one year of service)
I think that’s endemic of the problems Boeing has seen with this aircraft production line, and why there’s such an uproar about finding “hungry” people to do good work in SC.
It takes the FAA to find the wiring problems?!
