LUFTHANSA Pilot Union To Strike TOMORROW, September 5.

In news out of Germany, Lufthansa is bracing for yet another strike action by the union representing the majority of their pilots.  This one comes with only a few hours notice.

The strike will cover primarily domestic and European flights departing and arriving from Frankfurt between 5:00p and 11:00p (CEST) tomorrow, September 5.   It looks like 200 flights are at risk of being canceled.   According to LH, it looks like they will start canceling some flights with departures as early as 1:30p with a majority of flights being canceled that are scheduled for 4p or later.

If your travels involve Lufthansa within Germany or Europe tomorrow,  please contact Lufthansa or your travel agent.

You can also visit Lufthansa.com, access your reservation through ‘My Bookings’ and you’ll be presented with your options for rebooking.

LUFTHANSA: Attractive Deal To Milan!

LUFTHANSA: Attractive Deal To Milan!

Lufthansa is running a quick fare sale until September 8 for travel between New York and Milan.   The fare covers travel between September and January and fares are attractive at only $679.    This is part of a larger sale to Italy, but this $679 deal from NY is 50% less than the next best deal between a US city and Italy.   The fares cover departures from Newark and JFK.

Additionally, the fare covers flights operated by Lufthansa, Swiss, Air Canada, Brussels & United so pay attention as to who’ll be operating your flight since the amount of miles you earn and the hospitality that you’ll experience can vary greatly.

Terms are straight forward.   Departures must take place between September 17 and October while return travel must occur between September 19 and January 25.    Tickets must be purchased 14 days ahead of scheduled departure date.  There does not appear to be a minimum stay requirement.

This Milan fare looks like it’s part of a fare war with Skyteam and Oneworld carriers and in this instance it looks like the Star Alliance pricing is $20-$50 cheaper than the competitors.

LUFTHANSA: The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same…..

LUFTHANSA: The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same…..

For those of you who did not have an opportunity to transit Munich during August, you missed Lufthansa’s special Exhibit that took passengers and visitors on a walk down memory lane.

The Exhibit, “Service Is Our Tradition”, explored nearly 60 years of Lufthansa’s commitment to its passengers.   The exhibit comprised of 60 photos from Lufthansa’s archives that compared past and present scenes including moments captured in passenger cabins, airport operations and aircraft cockpits.

As you scroll through the photos you’ll notice that the Lufthansa took the archive photos and re-posed the same scene with current day surroundings for a side by side comparison.

The ‘Then & Now’ perspective goes a long way to show how LH has evolved over the last 60 years as far as equipment, technology and uniforms are concerned but also suggests the airline’s consistency over the years.
