Continuing the trend of $500 fares between the US and Nordic countries, Lufthansa is currently offering fares between Newark and Stockholm for $492 during parts of November.
Availability is fairly decent however departures need to take place on Monday with return flights needing to take place on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. It looks as though a minimum stay of 7 days is required as well. I haven’t had a chance to do a thorough testing of this fare, but the 3 or 4 sample bookings I tried on Google.com/flights basically shared the traits I mentioned above.
Please be mindful that these fares typically book into deep discount economy fare ‘buckets’ so in most cases these fares will earn little or no mileage for your frequent flyer program. However a fare this attractive sometimes trumps that detail!

In a meeting between Lufthansa and representatives of Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) held on Thursday, both sides agreed to a series of meetings to continue discussing the gamut of issues that exists between them.
Though dates have been scheduled for these sessions, I do not know what they are at this point. The good news in all of this is that both sides see enough reasons to return to the ‘table’.
Translation? For now, the threat of strikes has diminished. However if these meetings do not go well, expect the Union to announce further strikes even though they are losing support in the court of public opinion in Germany and with non-Pilot Lufthansa employees.

Just a quick post here…
Lufthansa has announced today that it will introduce the A380 to India as part of it’s Winter Timetable for 2014/15. Specific details have not yet been announced other than the target date of late October for service to begin. Exact route information is not available at this point.
The timing for this announcement is great, since many of the A380s will have the new Business Class installed in time for flights to India!
This comes after years of discussions with India’s government and airport authorities. Earlier this month Singapore Airlines also announced the beginning of A380 service to India.
