Round 1 passed without much surprise. The only upset was #13 Dallas (DFW) over #4 Auckland (AKL) which took a tie breaker random number generator to determine the winner. The matches start to get much more interesting in the second round, and it’s guaranteed that some big “names” are going home.
Here is the first set of 2nd Round Matches. More will be auto-posted on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Since I am traveling all next week, round 3 will begin when I return giving the airports a week off from competition. These matches will end on May 5 at 11:59p eastern time.

Here are the final matches to wrap up Round One. Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. No doubt that the competion will begin to intensify as the rounds continue. As I mentioned in my last Airport World Cup post, I wanted to have round 1 done before leaving for Istanbul. I’ll be able to set up the round 2 matches before leaving so that will help the tournament move along while I am away.

These 6 matches will be open for voting until 12pm Eastern Time on May 4. I’ll schedule posts to publish automatically for the round 2 matches so that round 2 can go on even if I am out of WiFi range.
