This is probably one of the coolest screen savers that a travel junkie may ever find. Star Alliance has a screensaver that actually plots on a map all of the Alliance’s flights as they are occuring in real time. The big drawback for us MAC users, is that is for windows only (.exe file). I know that there are ways to run Windows on a MAC, but I’m not smart enough to figure out that oxymoron. For us MAC users, there is a nice Timetable Widget that you can download.
StarAlliance.com is actually a very slick website. It has a great booking engine for building an Around The World Itinerary using all of its partners. You can even do lost baggage tracing directly from its website. I’ll stop stealing its thunder at this point and suggest you go and look for yourself! Its worth the click to be taken the website.

Concerned about an influx of rogue and unaccounted for weaponry due to the fall of Libya and other Arab Nation unrest, Israel announced that it will be accelerating the deployment of missile defense systems to Israeli based carriers. Full implementation is expected to be finished sometime in 2013.
El Al and other Israeli carriers are working with local developers to install systems that would essentially blind an incoming heat seeking missle and prevent it from reaching the aircraft. Considering the area where Israeli aviation operates the majority of its flights, they are relatively easy targets.
Currently El Al uses a technology that dispenses flares in an attempt to distract missiles, much like a military aircraft would. But the new technology, called C-Music, is aimed to potentially replace the older self defense systems.
I’ve never realized that this existed until I read the press release today. Apparently the components take up about the size of a bath tub and are attached to the exterior of the aircraft. So in the future, as you see El Al aircraft sitting on the tarmac or at a gate, take a look to see if they are carrying the new technology.

Just got this from Lufthansa UK a few minutes ago launching their “Carnival” fares. THESE FARES ARE AVAILABLE TODAY ONLY!
From Lufthansa:

The fares look great and are Roundtrips. It translates to approximately $1770 USD. Whats nice is the wide open window for travel covering the 1st quarter of 2012.
I searched through fare availability and there are plenty of £1111 fares to the destinations listed above. Keep in mind that this is for travel that originates from London, England. So if you are reading this from your flat or home in England, this is too good a deal to pass up.
