Maybe not as catchy as stopping to smell the roses, but Lufthansa has put Amsterdam (and the rest of Europe) on sale for this Spring.
The lowest fare to Amsterdam that I could find is a very attractive $480 from Denver. From most East Coast gateways to Amsterdam is still attractive in the low $600 range.
Aside from AMS, Boston (Aboard the A350!!) to Madrid or Barcelona can be booked for only $469. San Jose to Copenhagen is priced in the mid $600 range.
In fact, most European destinations can be booked for fares ranging between $600-$900 during this promotion.
The sale runs through March 15, 2017. Departing flights must take place between April 7 and April 30, while return travel must happen by October 30, 2017. You must purchase your tickets at least 7 days ahead of your departure.

Lufthansa is set to take delivery of their second A350 this Friday, February 24.
D-AIXB is set to arrive in Munich at 11:00a at which point it will be turned over to Lufthansa Technik who will install the Premium Economy cabin as well as take care of a few minor LH customizations.

D-AIXA takes to the skies from Munich
Once that work is complete, the aircraft will be available for more crew certification flights over the next 3 weeks before entering revenue service. According to LH’s schedule, that means that D-AIXB will fly to Boston on March 14.
This marks the second of Lufthansa’s initial 10 A350s that will be stationed in Munich. Ultimately 25 A350s will join the fleet and will be stationed between Frankfurt and Munich.

by Lufthansa Flyer | Feb 16, 2017 | Featured, Lufthansa, Strike, Vereinigung Cockpit |
Lufthansa announced yesterday that they’ve agreed in principal to the recommendations that came out of mediation sessions with Vereinigung Cockpit. Now it’s up to the Union to vote on the recommendations. The vote is expected to take place by late March.
In summary, here is what the deal looks like:
- Pilots will get a retroactive pay raise of 2% going back to January 1, 2016, and an additional 2.3% pay raise effective January 1, 2017.
- On January 1, 2018, an additional raise of 2.4% will be paid, and yet another raise of 2% on January 2019.
- A one-time ‘bonus’ will be paid that will amount to €5000-€6000 per pilot.
- The deal would be in effect until 2019.
Keep in mind this is only one part of the multi-faceted labor issue. The harder portion of reaching complete labor peace involves figuring out how pensions will be earned and paid. So we’re not quite out of the woods yet.
Lufthansa, though agreeing to the proposal, did come back with a response that suggested consequences are in the offing as a result of this deal. With the deal expected to cost Lufthansa at least €85 million annually, LH has suggested that it may use cabin crew on 40 aircraft that are not subject to the agreement. Most likely this would come from the pilots being ‘acquired’ through the Air Berlin deal that sees LH operating AB aircraft on their routes beginning this year. They are not subject to this agreement and would be one easy option to help mitigate at least some of the increase in labor cost.
Union representatives suggested that this deal may not be an easy one to sell to their members due to the issue revolving around the 40 aircraft that would have cockpit crew not covered by the agreement.
Also as part of the agreement and announcement, LH has indicated that no jobs will be impacted due to this arrangement.

Delhi, Boston……..
And now:
Mumbai!
Beginning sometime during the second quarter this year, Lufthansa will begin using their A350s on flights between Munich and Mumbai. Currently the route is flown by an Airbus A330.
Flight information remains the same. Flight 764 will depart Munich at 11:35a, arriving in Mumbai at 11:55p. Flight 765 will depart Mumbai at 1:25a, arriving in Munich at 5:50a.
Look for more destinations to be announced soon. Lufthansa likes to rotate new aircraft to a variety of new destinations, plus more A350s will be joining the fleet allowing LH to expand their reach. I expect a few East Coast USA destinations to be next in line to see the A350.
Once LH announces the exact date for Mumbai, I’ll pass that info along.
