LUFTHANSA Announces ‘Oktoberfest Flight Crew’ Schedule

LUFTHANSA Announces ‘Oktoberfest Flight Crew’ Schedule

As part of their Oktoberfest celebration each year, Lufthansa enlists their special ‘Trachten Team’ to bring the Holiday aboard certain flights during September.    The theme around this year’s costumes will be based on the styles worn in the 1950s to acknowledge Lufthansa’s 60th Anniversary.

For 2015, Lufthansa has announced the follow flights are scheduled to be operated with these special crews:

North America:

Munich – Charlotte on September 16

Munich – Vancouver on September 21

Middle East:

Munich – Dubai  September 29

These were the initial dates announced by LH.  I’m not sure if there will be additional destinations added to this schedule.   Additionally,  First Class passengers on all outbound flights from Munich will have a special Oktoberfest Menu during the ‘season.

Complimenting these international flights, LH will also have flight attendants sporting their Oktoberfest Drindls and Lederhosen on domestic and European flights during September as well, though I have not seen any details regarding which flights these would be.

Aside from the on-board experience, all lounge visitors in Munich will also be welcomed with special Oktoberfest menus and treats.

First Class Lounge guests can look forward to Oxtail Pralines and Wheat Beer Tiramisu while Senator and Business Lounge guests will be able to get their fill of Apfel Strudel and other delicacies.

If you are visiting the FCL in Munich, don’t forget your special ‘Bavarian Duck’!

New Lounge & Inflight ‘Amenities’ For Kids Traveling On Lufthansa

New Lounge & Inflight ‘Amenities’ For Kids Traveling On Lufthansa

Lufthansa has started giving out ‘Summer Kits’ to kids who visit Lufthansa Lounges in Frankfurt or Munich.   These kits contain Coloring Books, Baseball Caps and a variety of puzzles and other trinkets designed to occupy their time so Mom and Dad can enjoy their lounge visit that much more…. 😉

Lufthansa has also introduced a new book series designed for children.   These books are available on board and available in German and English.   These ‘Pixi’ books provide short stories about LH, LH Mascots and aviation in general.   There will be multiple volumes of these books available during the next few months.

In addition, LH is introducing a new app designed to follow up ‘Take Off’ which was their first version of a children’s app.   The new app, dubbed ‘Super JetFriends’, targets the 7 to 11 year old demographic and challenges them with a variety of scenarios.   The app should be available for iOS and Android in early August.

Looking at all these products makes me think back 35 years ago when I began flying as an 8 year old…..I was damn lucky to just have a comic book and a ‘Road & Track’ to take aboard!

What do you remember as your ‘inflight entertainment’ when you were a kid?

Today in Lufthansa History: First Baby Born In Flight

Today in Lufthansa History: First Baby Born In Flight

On July 28, 1965 while aboard flight 408 between Frankfurt and New York, a mother entered labor and delivered a baby (what else would it be, right?), marking the first time in Lufthansa’s history that a baby would enter the world during an LH flight.

According to the archives, no doctors were aboard and the flight crew helped the Mother and Baby rest comfortably after the somewhat unexpected event.   Doctors aboard another LH flight traveling from Munich to New York radioed over to assist the flight crew during the delivery.

According to Lufthansa, 10 babies have been born on board, with the last birth taking place on July 5, 2010 during a flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt.

Now you know…..
