Information is beginning to come from several reliable and proven sources that Lufthansa has issued a mandate instructing their African Cargo operations to place a ban on the transport of any African Hunting Trophy aboard LH Aircraft.
This memorandum may have been issued only in the last day or 2 and I am working to confirm additional details. What I understand so far is that the ban is effective immediately and covers any and all hunting trophies that originate in Africa.
With this new policy, LH has joined with South African, Emirates and British Airways in banning ‘Trophy’ cargo. Unfortunately Delta has issued a statement recently affirming that they will continue to allow transit of African Game Trophies aboard their aircraft.
Last week a U.S. Hunter killed a black rhino in Namibia through a legal license obtained for something like $230,000 USD.
Poachers are killing rhino and African elephants at a rate that might bring them to extinction in the next 30 years. The rate of killing these animals exceeds the birth rate in the past few years.
30 years? Try 15 at the current rate they’re killing off rhino. But yes, you make a very good point! And it’s about time the big commercial enterprises get on board with these things 🙂
This is fabulous news and a direct response to the global movement to protect what’s left of Africa’s wildlife, a country under siege from hunters around the globe. It’s time we evolved from the fun kill and supported true conservation efforts. Great work Lufthansa. This is morally and ethically the right thing for an airline to do and you will gain support globally for this stand.
This would indeed be good news. Can’t wait to see the details and fingers crossed it’s true!
And why is this such great, amazing news that requires exclamation marks? The fact you dont like something means no one should be allowed to do it? Hunting probably represents a big portion of some of these countries’ economy, but now theyll have to go somewhere else.
Wow….where to start….lets see….. The topic is near and dear to my heart, it’s my website, it’s my opinion and I’d like to think that my various conversations with LH on the topic may have had something to do with it. I assume at some point you’ve used an exclamation point?
This would be great news and I sure do hope that more airlines will switch to this policy.
