Safari 2017: Part 1 Of Many

Safari 2017: Part 1 Of Many

Spending the last 2 weeks in Africa visiting three unique Safari camps, I finally now have the time to get caught up and start sorting through over 19,000 photos and hours upon hours of video footage including a dramatic Helicopter run through the Blyde River Canyon in South Africa as seen by a GoPro attached to the belly of the chopper.

For starters, here are some of the early favorites from the cameras.   This first batch is taken from my absolute favorite place on the planet, the Dulini Private Game Reserve in the western sector of the Sabi Sands of South Africa.   It’s tops on my list because virtually every game drive will have you seeing the ‘Big 5’ as well as a wide variety of smaller mammals and more birds than you can keep track of.   Never a risk of a bad or dull game drive and the photos will bear that out.

For this trip, I packed my Nikon D800 and D5, along with a Nikon 24-70, Sigma 150-600S, Rokinon 24mm 1.4 (For the star trails), and the ‘toddler’ as my wife calls it, the Nikon 600mm / f4.   The D5 did the most of the heavy lifting, but the D800 took lead on anything that needed huge megapixels.    I wound up having luggage far more full with Cameras, Lenses, cables, etc., than clothes and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the way it should be.

Enjoy these for now.   Many more posts on the way including a closer look at the SWISS First and Business Class experiences during our travels….

LUFTHANSA Bringing The A350 To Major Asian Destination

LUFTHANSA Bringing The A350 To Major Asian Destination

Lufthansa has announced that it will deploy their A350 fleet to fly between Munich and Beijing.

Beginning on October 30, the A350 will replace the A346 that currently flies the route. This change will be in place through at least the Winter timetable that stretches between late October and Early March.

The flight numbers (LH722 ex-MUC and LH723 ex-PEK) and departure times remain the same.

SWISS Schedules Limited 777 Service From Zurich To Geneva, Hannover, and Vienna!

SWISS Schedules Limited 777 Service From Zurich To Geneva, Hannover, and Vienna!

SWISS has updated their timetable to reflect the assignment of their 777 aircraft to 3 European destinations during this coming Winter.   This has happened each year since the addition of the 777 to LX’s fleet as it provides an opportunity for SWISS to continue to train and certify crews for the 777 aircraft.

This winter’s  777 destinations include Geneva, Hannover, and Vienna and will operate as follows:

Zurich – Geneva will see the 777 between December 4 and March 23 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.   Flight number LX2802 from Zurich, and Flight LX2807 from Geneva.

Zurich – Hannover will see the 777 between December 4 and March 22 on Mondays and Thursdays.  Flight number LX816 from Zurich, and Flight LX817 from Hannover.

Zurich – Vienna will see the 777 between December 4 and March 22 on Mondays and Thursdays.  Flight number LX1582 from Zurich, and Flight LX1853 from Vienna.

Now before you get excited about being able to book a First Class ticket for these short haul flights, SWISS will not open the ‘F’ cabin for booking.    However, passengers booking Business Class tickets will be able to enjoy the 777’s Business Class cabin.

There have been anecdotes from past years that passengers have been allowed to sit the ‘F’ cabin, but that would be at the discretion of the purser.   From personal experiences in seeing how SWISS pursers behave with even the most trivial matters, I would be surprised if any of these stories are true.
