Looks Like All The Fun Is Over At Princess Juliana In St. Maarten

Looks Like All The Fun Is Over At Princess Juliana In St. Maarten

I was afraid that this would happen.   Society once again manages to the lowest common denominator.

Weeks after an idiot ignored warnings and her own abilities when she decided to get herself killed by riding the fence at Princess Juliana, it appears that she has ruined it for everyone else.

In a story posted by the ‘St. Maarten News Network‘, plans are being formulated to re-route traffic and make it impossible for tourists and aviation fans to enjoy a pastime that has been in place for decades.   The plan seems to entail rerouting vehicle traffic as well as to move the fencing much further away from the base of the runway, preventing thrill-seekers from hanging on to the fence when a 747 spools up her engines for take off.

I understand that the loss of life might be tragic to the friends and families of the deceased, but why go to the lengths of ruining it for everyone else just because ONE person decided to not pay attention to warnings, or did not know her own capabilities.

Once again, instead of finding a solution that satisfies everyone, lets just manage to societies lowest common denominator and protect all those fragile snowflakes from themselves.   Why not just ban cars since people die in them all the time?  Airplanes?  yep, ban them too.

While they’re at it, why not just pave the damn beach at the base of the runway and turn it into a parking lot.    You never know when a 747 will touchdown a bit early and plow through a bunch of beach-going bystanders.  Might as well plan for that risk now.

LUFTHANSA: Dusseldorf – Newark For Less Than $400!

LUFTHANSA: Dusseldorf – Newark For Less Than $400!

Lufthansa has quietly lowered fares between Dusseldorf and Newark in a direct response to British Airways dumping fares on the route.  The only thing with BA is you’d have to transit LHR, which is not exactly ideal if you just want to get from point A to point B.

For travel between November and March you can book DUS – EWR for only $368.   You can buy this ticket then bid for an upgrade to Premium Economy and most likely fly roundtrip in Prem Eco for the price of what Economy usually costs on the route.

Since it’s not a fare sale, I don’t know how long this fare will be in place.   Other routings from Germany to New York are also priced attractively in the low $400 range for the same travel period (November – March). This fare is available for most days, but your odds increase with Monday-Thursday departures.

Miles & More Targeted Offer: Earn Up To 2,000 Bonus Miles For August-October Flights

Miles & More Targeted Offer: Earn Up To 2,000 Bonus Miles For August-October Flights

Finally, a promo I actually qualify for with upcoming travel….

Miles & More has announced a small promo that will award members up to 2,000 award miles for flights taken between August 1 and October 31, 2017.

If you have flights scheduled during this time frame, you’ll earn an extra 500 miles for 2 flights and 2,000 bonus miles if you have 4 flights during the promo period.   Like I said, it’s not much, but it’s something.   You can’t earn more miles if you have more than 4 segments scheduled during the promo. 4 flights are the maximum that are eligible for the bonus miles.

The credit can be earned on flights operated by Lufthansa, Austrian, Brussels, SWISS, Eurowings, Croatia and Luxair.   Fare class doesn’t matter (award tickets do not qualify).  Multiple segments within an itinerary count as individual flights (i.e. flying ORD to JNB via ZRH counts as 2 flights).

The only catch is that you have to register by August 17 in order to be eligible, and it appears to be a targeted offer being made by email.  There’s no link that I can provide that would take you to the registration page, so check your email/spam folders for the offer.
