LUFTHANSA: Business Class Retrofit Update For February

LUFTHANSA: Business Class Retrofit Update For February

Each month Lufthansa updates the status of their Business Class retrofit progress across the long haul fleet.   This month’s update confirms that 64 long-haul aircraft now feature the new Business Class cabin.  That means that 6 additional aircraft now sport the new Business Class Cabin as compared to their January update.  The aircraft registration codes that are highlighted in green represent the 6 aircraft.

Here is the breakdown by Aircraft type and then by specific aircraft:

Airbus A330: D-AIKP, D-AIKQ, D-AIKR, D-AIKS  (These 4 planes were line-fit meaning that they were delivered by Airbus with the seats installed).     D-AIKD, D-AIKE, D-AIKF,  D-AIKG, D-AIKH, D-AIKI, D-AIKK, D-AIKM, D-AIKN have all been retrofit by Lufthansa Technik.   This represents 68% of the A330 fleet.

Airbus A340-300:  D-AIGM, D-AIGS, D-AIGO, D-AIGV, D-AIGT, D-AIGN, D-AIFE, D-AIGZ, D-AIFC, D-AIGX, D-AIGU, D-AIFF, D-AIGL, D-AIFD, D-AIGW (All Retrofit).  This represents 88% of the A340-300 fleet.

Airbus A340-600: D-AIHE, D-AIHF, D-AIHK, D-AIHN, D-AIHQ, D-AIHR, D-AIHS, D-AIHV, D-AIHW, D-AIHX, D-AIHB (All Retrofit).  This represents 46% of the A340-600 fleet.

 Airbus A380:  D-AIMK, D-AIML, D-AIMB, D-AIME, D-AIMJ, D-AIMC, D-AIMI, D-AIMG.  MK and ML were line fit.  This represents 66% of the A380 fleet.

Boeing 747-8i:  All aircraft have the new Business Class.  D-ABYR joined the fleet in January.

Boeing 747-400:  D-ABVW (Retrofit).  This represents 6% of the 747-400 Fleet, 1 out of 17 thus far.

SWISS: Your Eyes Can Win You Business Class Tickets To Switzerland!

SWISS: Your Eyes Can Win You Business Class Tickets To Switzerland!

SWISS has joined with artist Gerry Hofstetter to bring a unique perspective to a variety of European cities.    Using monuments around Europe as his ‘canvas’ and Eyes as his subject, he is attempting to convey a message of greater attentiveness to the things that surround us.

With this effort, SWISS is asking for your participation in the project and in return will award 6 lucky winners each with a pair of Business Class tickets for travel to Switzerland.  The contest is open to residents of the US and Europe (except for those residing in France, Italy or the Republic of San Marino).   To enter, all you have to do is take a ‘selfie’ of your eyes and upload it via the Contest Entry Page.    Your ‘Eyefie’ will be used in a ‘Grand Finale’ exhibit in Zurich.

All submissions will be gathered and a random drawing will take place in April to award the 6 vouchers.   The deadline for entering is Midnight, March 31, 2015 (Central Euro Time).

The terms and conditions are vague (as usual), but basically state that each winner will receive a voucher good for Biz class tickets from a USA gateway.   The expiration of the vouchers is not clear, but don’t let that stop you from entering!  The details can be sorted out later!

LUFTHANSA Business Class Signature Service Update: New Test Route In February

LUFTHANSA Business Class Signature Service Update: New Test Route In February

In October, I wrote about Lufthansa’s Business Class Signature Service and the testing the new concept was undergoing.   For those of you unfamiliar with Signature Service,  it is the idea where a Flight Attendant aboard a long haul flight would only be responsible for 8-12 Business Class passengers.    The concept is designed to create more 1:1 interaction between flight crew and passengers and to deliver a highly personalized service.

For the past several months, LH has been testing Signature Service in a variety of markets as they continue to fine tune it ahead of a Summer 2015 introduction across the entire long haul network.   Up until now, feedback has been positive and constructive and no changes to the launch are planned.

During this testing phase, LH has intentionally trialed the program in specific ‘cultural’ markets to determine adjustments that may be necessary due to cultural, dietary and ethnic needs.   What I mean by this is that LH is not testing this just between the US and Germany and assume that it will work the same between Africa and Germany.   Tests have been conducted on flights throughout the world.

To this end, the next phase of the Signature Service testing will take place on certain flights between Munich and Bombay, India during February.   I don’t have information on exact dates of these flights and I believe LH likes to keep it random and not predictable during the testing phase.    You’ll know Signature Services when you see it! 🙂
