Coming This Summer From Lufthansa: Sushi In Economy Class!

Lufthansa has announced that they will be introducing an ‘A La Carte’ menu for passengers traveling in Premium Economy or Economy class on long haul flights out of Frankfurt and Munich.

The program will be similar to what is offered by Austrian, where passengers can order specific meals ahead of their flights.

The Lufthansa version of this program will begin this May, and will give passengers the option to order one of several unique meals for their flights.    As far as pricing is concerned, expect to pay between $20 and $35 per meal.

The menu will cover a wide range of options including Sushi served in Bento Boxes, Mediterranean Seafood, Thai curry, Bavarian specialities, an Asian ‘vitality’ meal, or simply a grilled steak.

The meals can be ordered as part of your booking process.  Orders need to be placed at least 24 hours prior to your departure.

The standard, complimentary economy or premium economy meals will be available as usual for passengers not wishing to purchase the ‘A La Carte’ option.

Lufthansa Miles & More To Introduce Mileage Pooling For Families!

Lufthansa Miles & More To Introduce Mileage Pooling For Families!

Beginning this May, members of Miles & More will be able to start combining their efforts with family members living in the same household when it comes to earning and redeeming miles.

Though specifics have yet to be released by LH, it appears that that the new plan will allow 2 adults and up to 5 children in the same household to share Award Miles.     Status miles will not be combinable.    In other words, Dad and the kids can’t put their miles together to make Mom a Senator, but they can get her a First Class ticket by combining their award miles.

Being able to combine miles will be a huge benefit especially when the MM deep discount or ‘Meilenschnappchen’ promos are considered.   With monthly ‘Meilenschnappchen’ offers passengers can usually book award travel for nearly half of the miles that are usually required.

Hopefully M&M leaves the redemption table alone while doing this.    If they raise the amount of miles needed to redeem for a given award, it would nullify at least some of the benefit of being able to pool miles from several accounts.

I expect more announcements regarding Miles & More over the coming weeks.    Miles & More is celebrating its 25th Anniversary so I suspect more user-friendly features to be unveiled as we approach the busy summer travel season.

On my wish list?   Knock a few dollars off of the surcharges that are associated with redeeming miles, especially in First or Business Class! 🙂

Last Few Days To Get 75% More MileagePlus Miles & Chance To Win 1,000,000 Of ‘Em!

Last Few Days To Get 75% More MileagePlus Miles & Chance To Win 1,000,000 Of ‘Em!

Reminder!   United’s attractive mileage sale for MileagePlus members only has a few days left.    At up to a 75% bonus, it’s one of the better deals that we’ll see from them.    Additionally, any purchase of miles enters you to win 1,000,000 miles!

The deal is tiered so the more miles you buy, the better the discount.

The brackets break down as follows:

If you buy between 5,000 and 14,000 miles, you’ll get a 25% miles bonus and 1 entry into the sweepstakes.

If you buy between 15,000 and 29,000 miles you’ll get a 50% miles bonus and 1 entry into the sweepstakes.

If you buy between 30,000 and 85,000 miles you’ll earn a 75% miles bonus and 2 entries into the sweepstakes.

In doing the math you’ll pay about 2.8 cents per mile (CPM) if you buy between 5,000 and 14,000 miles (plus 25% bonus).    Buying between 15,000 and 29,000 miles (plus  50% bonus) will give you a CPM of  2.3 cents.    Buying over 30,000 miles (plus 50% bonus) will net you a cost of 2 cents per mile.

The promo is set to expire on March 9, 2018.   You can buy 150,000 miles per year per Mileage Plus account, and the miles you buy do not count towards status attainment.
