Looks like the French union representing Air Traffic Controllers is not bluffing this time and is prepared for a strike to take place throughout the day tomorrow that will affect Air Traffic throughout France.
According to EuroControl, heavy delays are expected throughout the day for flights transiting French Airspace along with high cancellation rates at French airports. Expectations are that 30% of flights in and out of Paris will be canceled with up to 20% of flights being canceled in Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and Nice.
From what I understand there was to be another attempt to avert the strike later this afternoon, but I’m not sure if this is the case at this point.
If your plans tomorrow call for being in an aircraft in or above France, expect it to be a difficult day, especially if you are on short-haul flights since those are the types that are typically canceled. You may want to consider alternative travel methods tomorrow if you are working with a tight schedule.

One of the things that I like about germanwings (Lufthansa’s European LCC), is their progressive thinking when it comes to travel promotions. Their most popular program has been around for some time but for most of us in the USA we seldom see it or hear about it. With Lufthansa’s decision last year to finally consolidate most of their European network (non-Munich or Frankfurt related) into germanwings, many of us from the States are starting to discover germanwings for the first time.

Ready For A Surpise??
‘Blind Booking’ is a program where your destination is selected for you based on a certain theme of travel that you choose during the booking process. Options include traveling to cities specializing in Shopping, Nature, GLBT Lifestyle, Party, Sun & Beach, Culture, Europe Mix and Metropolis. Within each of these categories is a selection of several cities that you could potentially be booked to for your trip. It won’t be until after you pay for your ticket that you find out which city you will be visiting. However, you can deselect cities from the grouping if you would like (but it will cost you €5 for each city you deselect!).
For example, if you chose ‘Metropolis’ as your theme, you will be randomly booked to one of the following cities:

For those of you who are members of Miles & More, let this serve as a reminder that the current 50% off award ticket redemptions promo for travel to a variety of European destinations ends on March 31.
Until then, members can enjoy booking Business Class tickets for nearly 50% fewer miles than the normal rate. For example, what would be 105,000 miles for a round trip Business Class ticket between Chicago and Amsterdam will only ‘cost’ 55,000 miles if booked by March 31. Economy Class redemptions are discounted 50%, with only 30,000 miles needed to book round trip travel instead of the normal 60,000 miles.
The discount award bookings are available for a wide range of European destinations and include redemptions in both Economy and Business Class. The valid travel dates vary depending on specific city pairs with most requiring travel to be completed by early to mid April. However, there are a few destinations including Barcelona, Helsinki and Ancona (and others) that allow travel to take place during July, the peak of the summer travel season to Europe.
If you find yourself short of miles for this particular opportunity, Miles & More is offering a promotion that is discounting the purchase of miles by 20% through the end of March. You are allowed to purchase up to 12,000 miles per year for your account.
Additionally, you may want to consider applying for the Premier Miles & More World MasterCard so that the next time Miles & More offers an attractive ‘sale’ you’ll be in position to take advantage of it. With the current offer, new cardholders will earn 20,000 miles after an initial purchase and an additional 15,000 miles if a balance is transferred from another card.
Additional perks include a FREE companion ticket after an initial purchase with the card and on each card anniversary date thereafter and there are NO FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEES for using the card abroad. You’ll earn 2 miles per dollar spent booking travel on a Miles & More partner airline and 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases.
