LUFTHANSA ‘Miles & More’ Members Can Now Redeem For Premium Economy Award Travel

LUFTHANSA ‘Miles & More’ Members Can Now Redeem For Premium Economy Award Travel

Beginning in October, members of Lufthansa’s Miles & More program will be able to finally redeem miles for Premium Economy award tickets.

The redemption rates predictably fall in between Economy and Business Class redemption rates and actually look fairly attractive.  For example, an Economy Class award ticket for travel between North American and Europe is 60,000 miles, for Business Class its 105,000 (Round Trip).   With Premium Economy, the redemption rate is 80,000.

For now, redemptions will need to take place by calling the Miles & More customer service center, but we’ll soon be able to book Premium Economy award travel on line.   Reservations can be made now, but ‘inventory’ is available for flights beginning on October 1.

Here is the published Premium Economy redemption table from Miles & More (Roundtrip Travel From/To Europe):

Middle East, Caucasia, North Africa, Central Africa:  55,000 Miles

North America, India, Southern Africa:  80,000 Miles

Central America:  95,000 Miles

Southeast Asia, Central Asia:  105,000 Miles

South America:  110,000 Miles.

Within Southeast Asia on 2-stop LH flights:  40,000 miles.

I expect additional redemption rates to be published shortly that will cover travel ‘transiting Europe’.  For example NYC-Frankfurt- Hong Kong, etc.  My guess is that the amount of miles needed for a Premium Eco seat will always fall evenly between the Economy and Business Class redemption rate, with a few minor variations.

Deja Vu All Over Again……Immediate LUFTHANSA Strike Threats Return

Deja Vu All Over Again……Immediate LUFTHANSA Strike Threats Return

Sorry Yogi Berra, but your insight is appropriate….

Just a few weeks ago, everyone was optimistic and singing Kumbaya at the prospects that a deal between Lufthansa and their pilot’s union was going to happen soon.

Unfortunately all of that premature optimism has been shattered and the Union has vowed that it can and will go on strike literally at ‘ANY TIME’.

Negotiations between the 2 sides broke down last night after agreements could not be reached on cost cuts and relocating of  pilot jobs to other Lufthansa Group airlines that are not subject to the same (or any) labor agreements.

If your travels involve LH in the coming days and weeks, please pay close attention.  These strikes typically come with only 24 hour notice.    However, LH has done a reasonably good job in making it easy to rebook your tickets on flights with other carriers.

Stay tuned…. 🙁

LUFTHANSA Business Class Retrofit Update: We’re Down To The Last 2!

LUFTHANSA Business Class Retrofit Update: We’re Down To The Last 2!

Lufthansa has updated their roster concerning the retrofit of the new Business Class cabin aboard their long haul aircraft, and it looks as though we are down to the final 2 birds.

Both aircraft are Airbus A340-600s, specifically ‘D-AIHT’ and ‘D-AIHP’, and are expected to have their retrofit completed this month.

In all, Lufthansa will have 107 aircraft sporting the new long haul Business Class when the retrofit project is complete.   This group is comprised of 13 747-400, 14 A380, 42 A340, 19 A330 and 19 747-8i aircraft.

No information was available for the 747-800….. 😉
