Each month, Miles & More creates a large inventory of deeply discounted award travel for members and consolidates them on their Meilenschnäppchen website. Being that this is May 2, the new deals for this month are now available for booking. Typically these offers run on a first come, first serve basis and as award inventory is booked up throughout the month, it becomes harder to find redemption opportunities through is promo. The best opportunities are usually available during the first 2 weeks or so of each month’s promotion.
The great thing about this promo is the fact that award travel is discounted up to 50%. For example a Roundtrip Economy Ticket between the USA and Europe is usually 60,000 miles, but during the promo, its only 30,000 miles roundtrip.
For Business Class the numbers are even more appealing. What is normally 105,000 miles for a round trip award ticket, becomes 55,000 miles during the promo. Consider it a 2 for 1 deal!
The May offers are valid until May 31 and appears to cover travel during September although there are several pockets of May & June availability as well. With hundreds of different combinations, you should have little trouble putting together a great trip at half the normal redemption rate!
If you find yourself short of miles, you may want to consider applying for the Barclay Premier Miles & More World MasterCard. Currently there is a special promo taking place until the end of June that will award new accounts up to 50,000 miles (20,000 after first use, and 30,000 more after spending $5,000 on the card during the account’s first 90 days). With this current deal, you would have enough miles for a Business Class ticket fairly quickly!

Barclays has temporarily improved its Premier Miles & More World MasterCard to now offer a total package of 50,000 miles once 2 simple criteria are met.

In my opinion this is a very strong opportunity to leverage miles for travel on Lufthansa or one of the other Miles & More member airlines. With 50,000 miles it’s nearly enough for a one way Business Class ticket between the US and Europe (55,000 miles).
However, each month Miles & More offers it’s Meilenschnaeppchen deals where you can book roundtrip Business Class tickets for only 55,000 miles ROUNDTRIP!
Additionally, miles can be used to book economy class tickets at the following rates (round trip):
Within the USA: 25,000 Miles.
Within North American: 30,000 Miles.
To Europe: 50,000 Miles.
To South America: 60,000 Miles.
To Asia or Australia: 80,000 Miles.
I normally don’t tout the various credit offers very often, and only do so when I would personally take advantage of an offer. In this case I think it is a fairly good idea to take advantage of this opportunity. They typically do not happen often. This particular offer is set to expire on June 30.

‘Meilenschnäeppchen’ or ‘Mileage Bargains’ is a monthly promotion offered by Miles & More that typically discounts award travel by 50%. What is normally a 105,000 mile redemption for a Business Class seat becomes 55,000 miles and a 60,000 mile Economy Class ticket becomes only 30,000 miles! It’s one of the best redemption deals out there for travel between the USA and Europe.
For the month of April, there are nearly 150 destinations available from the US to Lufthansa destinations throughout Europe, Russia and the Mideast with 2 sets of eligible travel dates. One set requires travel to take place between April 8 through mid-May/early June while the second set of options cover travel from August 1 to August 30. The current month’s offerings will expire on April 30, but book sooner than later since these bargains are limited. The sooner you book, the better the chances of you finding the seats.
When you visit the ‘Meilen Schnaeppchen’ website, you’ll see that there is a drop down menu in the top right corner that lets you select country of origin for your travels. You’ll literally have 1000’s of possible combinations to choose from. For example, there are many ‘germanwings’ options for travel within Europe for only 10,000 miles!
If you find yourself short of miles, with no imminent travel plans that would earn miles, you may want to consider applying for the Premier Miles & More World MasterCard so that you can take advantage of future Miles & More deals thanks to the bonus miles you would earn with the card. With the current offer, new cardholders will earn 20,000 miles after an initial purchase and an additional 15,000 miles if a balance is transferred from another card.
Additional perks include a FREE companion ticket after an initial purchase with the card and on each account anniversary date thereafter and there are NO FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEES for using the card abroad.
