Saturday Strike To Have Minimal Impact

Entering into day 4 of the pilot union strike, Lufthansa expects to have minimal impact from cancelled flights for Saturday, Nomvember 26.

As it stands, Lufthansa expects to only have to cancel 137 flights, however 88 of them are long-haul flights.    The union had called for short haul strikes today (Friday Nov. 25), and long haul strikes for the 26th, thus the large percentage of long haul cancellations.  Considering that LH operates over 3000 flights a day, Saturday should allow most passengers to get to their destinations.

Even though only 137 flights will be affected, it still translates in thousands of passengers that will be inconvenienced.   If you are traveling on a long haul flight on Saturday, please use this link to check on the status of your flight.    When I looked at the US cancelled list, several flights were shown as still being scheduled, so there is hope if you are traveling between Germany and the US on Saturday.

If your flight is impacted, you can call your LH reservation center or rebook via LH.com.   Simply pull up your booking, and if your flight is affect, the website will show you your options.

LUFTHANSA Strike Now EXTENDS THROUGH SATURDAY NOVEMBER 26, 2016

Thanks to the inmates at the Union Asylum, the pilot strike has not been extended through Saturday November 26, 2016.    The strike is set to run from 00:01a through 11:59p and is targeting long haul strikes out of Germany.

As what has unfortunately become normal, Lufthansa will yet again be forced to publish a special timetable for flights on November 26.    The new timetable is usually available by 6:00a on the day before the strike and can be found by using this link which is updated with the most current info.  But keep in mind that Saturday’s impacted flights won’t be loaded until Friday morning at 6:00a local Frankfurt time (CET).

It’s a bit unusual for the Union leadership to get out of bed to work on a Saturday so this latest act of stupidity comes as a bit of a surprise.   As such, I expect that the strike will be predictably extended to include Sunday and perhaps Monday as well, but that is speculation on my part based on the Union’s past behavior.

What I’m really interested to see if the Union has the balls to call strikes during the first week of December when traditionally most of Germany begins their Holiday travel season.   The union thinks it pulled a fast one by striking during a time frame that would impact most American travelers, so lets see if they man up and piss off their constituency within Germany.  Keep in mind, North America is Lufthansa’s second largest market so the impact is obviously felt by Lufthansa, but perhaps less by those in Germany or Europe.

Does my opinion of the union come through clearly enough?  🙂

Have comments for the union?  I’m sure they’d welcome them via twitter on @VCockpit

LUFTHANSA Publishes Special Timetable For November 25, 2016

Lufthansa has once again been forced to published an amended timetable to reflect the impact of the third consecutive day of strikes that have forced Lufthansa to cancel thousands of flights.

The new timetable can be found by following this link.

As always, If your flights have been affected, you’ll have the option to rebook via LH.com, calling your local Lufthansa reservation office, or your travel agent.    Most stories that I hear from passengers affected by the strike suggest that it was fairly easy for them to be re-accommodated.

and…

Happy Thanksgiving to those that the holiday applies to!
