LOT Flight From Newark Makes Safe Emergency Landing

Earlier today a LOT 767 from Newark, New Jersey bound for Warsaw, Poland made a safe and spectacular emergency landing. None of the landing gear deployed and the crew made a textbook landing on the belly of the aircraft. None of 230 passengers were hurt. The airport is closed until further notice.

There are various news websites carrying the video. I’d post a link, but can’t based on the technology I have in my hand at the moment.

Lufthansa Makes Fare Advertising Changes

In a press release today, Lufthansa announced that effective October 31, 2011 any fares that it advertises through its website, email subscriptions, facebook and twitter channels will be quoted as a round trip and inclusive of taxes.

This will be a welcome change. Right now, the fare advertisings are based on a one way fare, not including taxes. This led to the fares looking very low if one initially assumed that to be a round trip fare.

Glad they’re doing this. Quoting fares as Round Trips including taxes will be a welcome change for Lufthansa fare watchers!

Lufthansa still offering vouchers for discount travel on A380 from JFK to Munich

Lufthansa is still offering a great discount for travel on the Airbus A380 Flagship from JFK in New York City to Munich.

Invalid request error occurred.
It’s a great opportunity to experience the phenomenal new aircraft that will become the standard of service on Lufthansa. The promotion is in effect for flights between 6 December – 12 December 2011.

I had the opportunity to fly the A380 from JFK to Frankfurt in September as part of the Star Alliance MegaDO event. The aircraft is extremely impressive. It is very quiet and has the latest in technology and passenger conveniences. The most interesting feature in my opinion is the various external cameras that are available to passengers during the entire flight. You have a chance to see the aircraft’s take off roll, full flight, landing and taxi to the gate thanks to these cameras. For an airplane/airline hobbyist, its a great new addition to the passenger experience.

An A380 to Munich is rare and this promotion is for a very limited time. The largest aircraft until now that have graced MUC is the Airbus A340 series so you can be part of a rare group of people to be among the first to fly to MUC on the A380!
