Being a Star Alliance “Homer”, I thought this was a worthwhile item to share. I had the offer waiting in my email this evening and actually sounds like a decent promotion.
Sign up for the American Cellars Wine Club and earn up to 5000 Dividend Miles. You’ll earn 2000 miles with your first order and 3000 miles with your second order. Beyond there, you’ll earn 5 miles per dollar spent.
Being a Scotch drinker myself, I know next to nothing about wine except that it comes in red and clear 🙂 . So please don’t be to hard on me if this is not as good an offer as it appears at face value!
For all the details along with terms and conditions, please visit the offer’s website.
You could certainly cook with it – it’s really not all that bad, it just isn’t all that great. A very good chef once told me, ” . . if you can’t drink it, don’t cook with it” . .
I did something like this from USAir for a hit in the Grand Slam. You’ll spend $42.00 for your first 6 bottles, than about $112 on the second shipment – about $155 all in for 5,000 miles or aprox. $.03/mile
However, you get wine – not real great wine; not real bad wine . . . there is a glut in California juice right now, especially at the mid-to-low end. A lot of well-known wineries will bottle stuff up and sell it under an obscure label as basically a one-off private label bottling. I am not sure if what I have is some of that or whatever, but it’s not certainly anything you’ve heard of or anything you’ll find in a grocery store or wine shop.
My advice – (I live in Texas, where’s it’s hot 9 months of the year) – buy the red and make Sangria with it. Perfectly drinkable stuff, but you aren’t going to impress anyone with it. It’s perfect chilled with fruit and ice and 5,000 miles . . .
could you use the “bad” stuff for cooking then? Again, my ignorance shining through……
Actually, it’s red or yellow, and then there’s this pink stuff people are always talking s*** about. 😉 But I know what you mean. I’m pretty skeptical of wine clubs, and my first thought was, “They’re going to send me Chardonnay! I won’t drink Chardonnay!” But it turns out you can choose red-only if you want. Might be worth it for 5K points.
