Thanks to Flyertalk’s ” `X’ ” (yes the typing is correct!) who is located near Paine Field in Washington State for the tip that Lufthansa’s 4th 747-8i is heading for home tonight.
Operating as flight LH9875, It’s set to depart from Paine Field (PAE) later this afternoon and arrive in Frankfurt tomorrow morning.

The latest 747-8i, tail # D-ABYE, will enter service on Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Los Angeles route sometime toward the end of October (no exact date has yet been set). Lufthansa’s next 747-8i will fly between Frankfurt and Chicago, however no “official delivery date” has been set by Boeing as of yet.

My experience aboard the 747-8i
Why D-ABYE? Shouldn’t it be “D”?
@Stephan – No, they honor D-ABYB and do not use it. D-ABYB was a 747 lost on November 20, 1974 in crash shortly after takeoff from Nairobi.
I wonder if there is a way to travel on a delivery flight? Any idea?
@Carl – I’ve asked, and have come close, but the overriding issues are security, on board safety and then immigration. Since technically its not a scheduled airline flight, there are some FAA issues that they said would arise. But that won’t stop me from asking every now and again!!
Let’s ask the LH PR guy on SMD4
I spent a few days in Everett recently and caught a glimpse of the next one in the 40-23 building. Tail number D-ABYF, fully painted and engines installed. She looked ready to fly to me.
