Lufthansa announced today that it’s newest Airbus A330 which is already “factory” equipped with the new First Class and Business Class cabin entered service today on LH’s Munich-Washington DC route. It’s the first new aircraft that will fly with the new premium interiors.
Last month Lufthansa announced that it’s first 747-8i will debut on the Frankfurt-Washington DC route on June 1. That aircraft also sports the new premium cabin interiors.
I think that Lufthansa is using the high profile Washington DC route to debut the new cabins in part to answer competition it sees from Middle Eastern Carriers such as Etihad, Emirates, Qatar and Royal Jordanian. Washington DC is the only US airport served by these 4 carriers, so it makes sense to compete directly.
The new First Class cabin has been in place for some time and Lufthansa is working through its fleet and retrofitting it’s aircraft. The new business class seat has not been seen in scheduled service until the flight from Munich today.
Just stumbled on this post. I’m considering flying LH from ORD-MUC in F on the a330. How can I tell if this plane has the new configuration? Thanks so much.
@LufthansaFlyer,
Any ideas whether Lufthansa’s service from Munich-Mumbai will have the new business class? I am scheduled to travel with them in December this year.
Actually they should probably use this aircraft on the Houston routes as opposed to the A380 since those flights appear to be not so full usually
@Rahul -Lufthansa certainly is one of the best out there! As far as the flying piece, I am very lucky to have a flexible career that lets travel be a very serious hobby er, obsession.
We are flying first class on LH from ORD to MUC on 6/17. Is there any way to know whether it will be a retrofitted plane?
There is, but you may be a bit too far out to know what tail number is serving it. Right now about half the A346 fleet based in MUC has been retrofitted, but ORD has not seen the new F the majority of the time.
I want to try Lufthansa. I have heard good stories about it. And btw Sir, how do you fly so much..i only wished 🙁
IAD doesn’t have service from Royal Jordanian. As of now, they only have Qatar, with Emirates beginning service in September, and Etihad in March 2013..
thanks for the update. I had read that IAD was the only one served by all 4. Maybe it changed since I read about it?
