Lufthansa, along with several Star Alliance partners is running a fairly attractive fare sale from the east coast of the USA to Copenhagen for travel between November and February.
Most of Lufthansa’s fares are coming in around the $525 range for Newark departures. There are some minor variances that bring fares down to as low as $510 and as high as $650. Fares from JFK are $30-$80 higher than they are from Newark.
Other Star Alliance partner fares are showing SAS for as low as $497, Air Canada and United are in the low $500s.
There does not seem to be a pattern for fare validity. I found sample fares that were valid for 2 day trips all the way out to 2-3 month stays. Availability is widespread and relatively easy to find!
As this is an un-advertised fare special there are no specific terms or conditions that exist and I do not know how long the fares will be available at this rate.
What I do know is that these fares make it very easy to start planning ahead for the fantastic Christmas Markets that take place throughout Europe from late November through Christmas!

Scouring a few fare search engines tonight, I found that LH is still offering $900 fares between the East Coast of the US and Johannesburg, South Africa.
I first wrote about this back in February, but 3 months later the fares are still widely available for November travel from Boston, Washington DC and Newark. In addition Business Fares are still only in the $5000 range for the same period!
The fare sale seems to go beyond just LH as the operating carrier. You’ll find similar fares for flights operated by United, South African and Air Canada, but I think you can guess who I would recommend you fly should you be interested in booking this deal!
There are no apparent minimum days/stays required as I was able to find the $900 fares for 2 and 3 day trips. The absolute best fares are found for departures taking place between Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Keep in mind that these are deep discount economy fares, so the miles that you will earn for your FF program can vary dramatically. In some cases you may earn 0 miles!
However, if you are planning a Safari trip for the peak Safari season in South Africa, these fares will be hard to beat!

SWISS is running an attractive BUSINESS CLASS Fare Sale to several major European destinations for summer travel.
The best fares are found for NYC departures, where you can find deals in the mid to upper $2000 range. Otherwise, departures from other East Coast gateways (Boston and Miami) run in the low $3000 range. The best bargains are for travel to Barcelona, Rome, Zurich or Geneva.
From the Midwest (Chicago) and West Coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco), fares start in the low to mid $3000 range and work their way up into the low $4000 range.
SWISS is consistently rated as having one of the best International Business Class products, so when fares are discounted by up to 50% from their regular rates it’s a good time to experience their hospitality!
Please note that these fares are booking as deep discount ‘P’ fares which will affect how many miles you’ll earn for your respective Frequent Flyer Programs.
As far as Terms and Conditions are concerned:
Departures must take place between June 30 and August 24.
Return travel must be completed by August 31.
A 7 day minimum stay is required.
Please visit SWISS.COM for more details on the fare sale.

Each year Lufthansa conducts an Early Bird Fall Fare Sale and provides attractive fares to those already planning trips for the 3rd and 4th quarter. Last year the sale was held in July so this year’s version is even an “Earlier Bird” sale.
Budapest seems to be the best deal during this sale with fares as low as $830 from Chicago and and only $930 from Los Angeles. Other USA gateways to Budapest run in the low $1000 range.
Other deals are available between the US and most of Lufthansa’s European destinations and in most cases fares are running between $1100 (East Coast/Midwest departures) to $1300 (West Coast departures).
The Terms/Conditions are as follows:
Tickets must be purchased by MAY 8, 2014.
You must depart between AUGUST 24 and OCTOBER 25, 2014.
You must return between AUGUST 31 and JANUARY 25, 2015.
Tickets must be purchased 14 days ahead of departure.
Keep in mind that these fares are valid for travel on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels, United or Air Canada so be mindful when booking your trip. I say this because the amount of miles you’ll earn for your Frequent Flyer account can vary widely based on the carrier who operates your flight. In some cases, deep discount economy fares like this may earn 50% or even no miles depending on the program that you credit miles to. If you are uncertain, please let me know and I can help you figure out the best combination for earning miles.

Continuing the trend of $500 fares between the US and Nordic countries, Lufthansa is currently offering fares between Newark and Stockholm for $492 during parts of November.
Availability is fairly decent however departures need to take place on Monday with return flights needing to take place on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. It looks as though a minimum stay of 7 days is required as well. I haven’t had a chance to do a thorough testing of this fare, but the 3 or 4 sample bookings I tried on Google.com/flights basically shared the traits I mentioned above.
Please be mindful that these fares typically book into deep discount economy fare ‘buckets’ so in most cases these fares will earn little or no mileage for your frequent flyer program. However a fare this attractive sometimes trumps that detail!
