LUFTHANSA & SWISS Claim Victories At World Travel Awards!

LUFTHANSA & SWISS Claim Victories At World Travel Awards!

The 2014 World Travel Awards For Europe are taking place this weekend in Athens, Greece and Lufthansa and SWISS have been honored with a handful of awards!

First, Lufthansa took home the trophy for ‘Europe’s Leading Airline’ for the 4th consecutive year. Additionally, Lufthansa also took home the prize for ‘Europe’s Leading Airline Lounges’ for the First Class Lounges in Frankfurt Airport.

SWISS takes home the award for ‘Europe’s Leading Business Class’ for the 4th year in a row. It seems like SWISS’ formula is working wonderfully!

The World Travel Awards host a series of these Award Ceremonies around the World and break down their events on a regional basis. This year, these ‘Regional Qualifying Events’ will take place for the following areas: The Middle East, Africa & the Indian Ocean, South & Central America, North America & the Caribbean, Asia & Australasia, and Europe.

Winners from each of these ‘Qualifiers’ will move on to compete at a year-end event in Morocco that will eventually crown a ‘World Champion’ in a variety of travel related categories. Voting is reserved for professionals in the travel industry and typically attracts upwards of 500,000 ballots each year.

Looks like LH and LX have advanced to the ‘Knock-Out’ Round! 😉

LUFTHANSA: First Class Fare Sale For April Travel From USA To Europe!

LUFTHANSA: First Class Fare Sale For April Travel From USA To Europe!

Lufthansa is currently running an attractive fare sale for First Class travel between the US and Europe with fares as low as $5240.   This is the kind of fare sale I like to take advantage of because it lets me book a First Class ticket for what normally is a Business Class price.

By now, I’m sure you are all familiar with the outstanding amenities involved with flying First Class with Lufthansa including access to the world’s finest dedicated First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, private car transfer between terminal and aircraft in certain situations and 5-Star treatment during your flight.  Additionally, Lufthansa has been upgrading their long-haul fleet to a new First Class cabin which puts the cherry on top of a fantastic experience!

As far as the fare sale is concerned, it runs until March 15 and is valid for departures taking place between April 13 and April 25 and returning between April 19 and May 1.  Additionally, tickets must be purchased 28 days prior to departure.

I usually warn readers during these fare sales to be careful of operating carriers.   In this particular case I have found several flights options that are operated by United Airlines.   While their First Class product is great, it is not Lufthansa First Class.  More importantly, if you fly on United you will NOT have access to Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal or Lounges!  So keep that in mind when reviewing reservation options.  It’s that important! 🙂

My suggestion would be to book flights operated by Lufthansa’s 747-8i or Airbus A380 aircraft. They both feature Lufthansa’s new First Class cabin throughout the aircraft types.   Lufthansa’s 747-400s, A340 and A330 aircraft are currently undergoing upgrades so there is a possibility that you may not see the new First Class product if your flight is operated by one of these birds.  Regardless, you will be pampered and spoiled by a fantastic crew, aircraft and ground services!

And don’t forget to get your duck! 😉

LUFTHANSA’s First Class Lounge In Munich Earns 5-Star Recognition

Lufthansa has had quite a year as far as earning awards for it’s First Class Services is concerned and it looks like more room is needed in the trophy case….

Earlier this year the First Class Lounges and Terminal earned the Skytrax 5-Star Award for best-in-class premium lounges as well as the International 5-Star American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) Award for  in-flight First Class product,  the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt and for the First Class Lounge at New York’s JFK Airport.

This time, the AAHS has awarded Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge in Munich it’s coveted International 5-Star Award.   The Lounge, a unique 2-story facility has a slightly different feel from the lounges in Frankfurt thanks to the Bavarian atmosphere/attitude that you would observe while visiting the lounge.   There has always been a friendly and healthy competition between the Frankfurt and Munich First Class Services teams and it’s nice to see everyone being recognized for their efforts.

The facility in Munich is unique in that it has it’s own dedicated passport control officer within the lounge so arriving passengers do not have to go through passport control along with everyone else arriving in Munich.   First Class passengers simply head to the Lounge and are taken care of there.   Additionally, passengers whose connecting flights depart from remote gates are chauffeured to their aircraft in a private vehicle, again avoiding long queues at gates and bus rides associated with remote gate departures.

Additionally, the lounge has a fantastic bar, a dedicated cigar room and dining area along with shower facilities.  To further distinguish themselves, the Munich First Class Lounge even has a different variety of ducks than their peers in Frankfurt.   After all isn’t the duck the most important part of the lounge experience? 🙂

LUFTHANSA First Class Services Scores Yet Another Award!

Following up on their Award from Skytrax, Lufthansa First Class Services has earned yet another trophy for their mantle.   This time, The American Academy of Hospitality Services awarded Lufthansa its FIVE STAR DIAMOND AWARD for three different categories:  Lufthansa’s onboard First Class product,  The First Class Terminal in Frankfurt and for Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge in New York’s JFK Airport.

The award ceremony took place in Frankfurt at the First Class Terminal.  Jens Bischoff, LH’s Chief Commercial Officer took time to comment on this accomplishment:  “Today marks another milestone for Lufthansa on our way to becoming the industry’s leading airline for premium travel. Our customers are appreciating the numerous service upgrades we have invested in, both on board and on the ground, with the industry’s leading organizations taking note of our accomplishments. Today, we are very excited to receive this award from the Academy which has evolved into an international powerhouse network that values the very highest quality and hospitality.”

Congrats to Nico and her team! 🙂
