When Lufthansa’s ‘D-AIKJ’ comes out of scheduled maintenance in September, it will be the first A330 to be in service that will not have a First Class cabin. The Munich-based aircraft will only have Business, Premium Economy, and Economy class cabins.
Based on initial plans, the aircraft will only fly between Munich and Delhi beginning on September 23 and will remain on the route until her retirement, though I suspect that commitment can change. A-AIKJ entered service in 2005, so there are few good years left to her.
As more A330 aircraft go through their maintenance schedules, expect more to have their First Class cabin removed.

Captured here as she departed Dubai, D-AIKJ will be Lufthansa’s first A330 without First Class seating.

In keeping with tradition of acknowledging special events, LUFTHANSA’s First Class Services team in Frankfurt has unveiled a limited edition duck commemorating the Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
The Duck will be available to passengers who qualify to visit the First Class Lounges or First Class Terminal in Frankfurt beginning on August 5. These passengers of course include HON Circle members and passengers with a First Class flight either on Lufthansa or if connecting from Frankfurt to a SWISS First Class flight out of Zurich.
The ducks will be available as long as supplies last…..So change your travel plans if you need to! 🙂

While I was away and a bit unreachable, Lufthansa re-confirmed destinations that will no longer have First Class cabins available for booking.
If you recall a few months ago, Lufthansa announced their initial list showing which cities would no longer see Lufthansa First Class cabins and later recanted the update and restored scheduled First Class service to some destinations.
However, LH has now provided an update that has brought these cancellations back to the timetable. Most of the changes take place for flights beginning in December and First Class reservations will no longer be accepted after June 30 for these routes:
Munich – Boston: First Class will no longer be available beginning January 3.
Munich – Charlotte: First Class will no longer be available beginning December 1.
Munich – Delhi: First Class will no longer be available beginning September 23.
Munich – Denver: First Class will no longer be available beginning December 2.
Munich – Montreal: First Class will no longer be available beginning December 1.
Munich – Mumbai: First Class will no longer be available beginning December 1.
Munich – Tehran: First Class will no longer be available beginning December 1.
This appears to be the beginning of a trend especially in Munich as the 3-cabin Airbus A350 will begin to join the fleet in January 2017 and replace aging A340 and A330 aircraft. The A350 will only have Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class cabins.

To celebrate Euro 2016, Lufthansa’s First Class Services has introduced a limited edition ‘First Class Duck’.

The duck is available to First Class passengers who visit the First Class Terminal or the First Class Lounges at Frankfurt Airport during the Euro 2016 tournament (June 10 – July 10).
Keep in mind that there is a limited supply of these ducks, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Make sure to coordinate your travels to get one of these limited edition gems!

A few days ago, I posted info regarding the removal of the First Class cabin from several A330s that are based in Munich which obviously will affect several routes. Since that release from Lufthansa, they’ve provided a further update that at least temporarily brings back the F cabin on certain routes. In speaking with LH’s Network/Scheduling Planning area today, it appears that they are in the midst of finalizing the timeline and we should expect additional updates as LH schedules their aircraft for retrofit over Winter 2016/17. For now, here is the latest info that has been loaded into their reservation system.
Munich – Boston is still scheduled to have F removed on January 3.
Munich – Charlotte has been reopened for F beyond December 1
Munich – Chicago has been reopened for F beyond January 3
Munich – Delhi removal of F has been pushed out to January 16
Munich – Miami has been reopened for F beyond February 4
Munich – Montreal has been reopened for F beyond December 1
Munich – Mumbai has been reopened for F beyond December 1
Munich – New York (JFK) has been reopened for F beyond February 2
Munich – Tehran has been reopened for F beyond December 1
Munich – Washington DC has been reopened for F beyond February 2
Regardless of the dates listed above, the plan calls for complete removal of F on these routes no later than the end of March 2017, in time for the 2017 Summer timetable.
Keep in mind, this is not a finalize schedule. A lot will depend on how quickly LH schedules their aircraft to go into maintenance for the cabin changes. Historically, delays typically take place so I expect that LH will keep providing regular updates, especially as we approach the 3rd Quarter.
Oh, and speaking of Munich, they’re leading Atletico 1-0 in today’s UEFA Semi-Final match thus far……..
