LUFTHANSA Updates A380 Service Details From Munich

LUFTHANSA Updates A380 Service Details From Munich

In 4 weeks (on March 25, 2018), Lufthansa will finally begin deploying their A380s in Munich with flights to Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Beijing.    Though that is not ‘new’ news, LH did provide an update today regarding the logistics at the airport when it comes to gates and security screening.    Considering the A380 can carry twice the amount of passengers as the typical long-haul planes LH currently uses in MUC, it was obvious that certain things needed to change at security screening and the gates that LH will use for the A380.

According to Lufthansa, the A380 will use gates H47 and H48 located inside Terminal 2, and gates L11 and L13 that are located in the new Satellite terminal.  In addition, gates L24/26 and L28/30 are retrofitted with a 3rd passenger bridge that will give passengers direct access to the upper deck.

Munich Airport and Lufthansa have also adjusted the security screening process to make it a bit easier to get through security and to the gate as a result of having substantially more passengers boarding the A380 as compared to other aircraft that usually use Terminal 2 and the Satellite Terminal.

Current plans call for LH to utilize 5 A380 aircraft in Munich to cover these initial routes.

Plane Spotter Alert: Lufthansa Bringing New Livery To Seoul On Feb 26 To Pick Up German Olympic Team

Plane Spotter Alert: Lufthansa Bringing New Livery To Seoul On Feb 26 To Pick Up German Olympic Team

To bring the successful German Olympic Team home in style, Lufthansa has dispatched their 747-8i (D-ABYA) to Seoul.    Lufthansa flight LH713 scheduled for February 26 will fly the team home and at the same time bring the new look of Lufthansa to Seoul for the first time.  If you recall, D-ABYA is the one of the first LH aircraft to sport the new livery design.

Normally, passengers and spotters in Seoul see the 747-400 during this time of year so the regardless of the paint on the plane, seeing the 748 in ‘ICN’ will be a treat for those of us who enjoy this kind of thing!

If you happen to be at the games or at least in Seoul and want to get a glimpse of the bird, the flight is scheduled to depart Seoul (ICN) at 1:05p and is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt at 4:45p. If you want to catch her arriving in Seoul earlier on Monday, she’s due to land at 8:50a.

LUFTHANSA Europe Sale Features One Way Fares As Low As €35…….2 Days Only!

LUFTHANSA Europe Sale Features One Way Fares As Low As €35…….2 Days Only!

Lufthansa has launched a 48 hour fare sale that significantly discounts fares to most cities in Europe.    Though it’s a marketing gambit to advertise fares as ‘one way’, when you put together 2 one ways to make a roundtrip, the deal is still solid.

For example….

Frankfurt to Barcelona can be had for only €35 each way.    The same goes for Krakow, Catania, and Dublin among others.

Fares from Munich mirror the pricing from Frankfurt so there are several €35 deals from MUC as well.

Outside of the special €35 destinations, most other one way tickets to the rest of Europe range between €50 and €70 which makes the fare sale an attractive proposition in most cases.

This fare sale ends on February 25, 2018 at midnight CET.

Departures need to take place between March 3 and May 15, 2018.   Travel must be completed by May 17, 2018.   A blackout period between March 23 and April 9 is in place (Easter).    Tickets must be purchased 7 days prior to departure.

LUFTHANSA’s New Livery Shows Up On First Regional Jet……

Late last week, Lufthansa’s first regional jet came out of the paint hangar carrying the new livery.

A Cityline CRJ900, registered as D-ACNM, came back from her scheduled maintenance break and re-entered service at her base in Munich.    Another 37 aircraft are scheduled to be painted by year’s end, including one A380.

I’ll be publishing a schedule later this week showing the current calendar for the repaints.     In most cases, the painting will happen as part of an aircraft’s ‘D’ maintenance check which the most intensive of all the checks that aircraft go through.
