Each month LUFTHANSA updates the status of their Business Class retrofit progress across the long haul fleet. This month’s update confirms that 70 long-haul aircraft now feature the new Business Class cabin. That means that 6 additional aircraft now sport the new Business Class Cabin as compared to their February update. The aircraft registration codes that are highlighted in green represent the 6 newly retrofitted aircraft.
Here is the breakdown by Aircraft type and then by specific aircraft:

Just a reminder that the Lufthansa Business Class Fare Sale that I mentioned back in January ends today! The sale is valid for travel during most of the summer and well into the fall.
Most fares between the East Coast and a variety of European destinations range from the low to mid $2000 range, while the central US and west coast ranges between $3000 and $4000. There are a few anomalies like Detroit-Rome which is pricing at $4400 but that is exception and not the rule for this sale.
The valid travel dates for this promo are as follows:
Departures must take place between June 25 and August 29, 2015.
Return Travel must take place between July 7 and November 29, 2015.
Fares are valid for Monday through Thursday travel. Weekends will incur a surcharge.
Be mindful when you book your tickets since the operating carrier can be Lufthansa, Austrian, SWISS, Brussels, Air Canada or United. My suggestion is to focus on the first 4 carriers that I mentioned. You won’t regret it!

Lufthansa provided an update on Friday indicating that all of their long haul aircraft based in Munich (Airbus A330 & A340) now feature the new First Class cabin.
In all, 24 MUC-based aircraft now have the new cabin. Next up for the fleet will be the completion of the Premium Economy cabin install, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
I expect LH to release their monthly fleet retrofit report in the next few days which will provide additional detail on their progress.

One of Lufthansa’s most historic and important pieces of ‘DNA’ has finally been recognized for her achievements and contributions as she approaches her 80th Birthday.
Many of you will recognize the phrase ‘Tante Ju’. If you do not, it is the term of endearment bestowed upon Lufthansa’s Junkers Ju52 that had been saved and restored. Most importantly, it is still in active passenger service and graces airports all around Europe during summers.
Personally, I came within a thunderstorm of being one of her passengers. Unfortunately, my flight was cancelled and I’ll have to try again this year…..
Built in 1936, this gem has recently been honored by the Heritage of Hamburg Cultural Authority by being designated as a moving “Historic Monument”. With this designation, ‘Tante Ju’ has been officially recognized as a part of commercial aviation history and will be protected by all the rules and regulations that are afforded to historic landmarks.
In order to receive this recognition, an aircraft needs to be at least 30 years old and must have been restored and preserved to its original condition. Additionally a commitment needed to be made by her care takers to continue providing this kind of care.

Today, Tante Ju is in the good hands of Lufthansa Berlin Stiftung whose sole responsibility is to preserve and restore some of Lufthansa’s most iconic aircraft. For those of you unaware, you can actually purchase tickets for touring flights on ‘Tante Ju’ that are held at airports throughout Germany (and even some parts of Europe) during the summer. For more information on her schedule and booking tickets, click here. Please note that tickets tend to sell out quickly!
As is stands now, ‘Tante Ju’ will be officially honored with this Historic Moving Monument designation at a special ceremony to be held during Hamburg Airport Days in August.

Lufthansa has updated their timetable and has accelerated the debut of the 747-8i in Newark.
Originally, LH was to start flying the 747-8i between Frankfurt and Newark on March 29 however that has now been moved up to February 23 (as in tomorrow). This applies to flights LH402 and LH403.
Please note that the 747-8i will temporarily disappear from Newark between March 29 and April 8 when it will be deployed to Houston and a 744 will substitute during that time. This substitution is happening because the A380 fleet is going through maintenance and certain craft are having Premium Economy and new Business Class cabins installed. The 748 will be back in Newark on April 9.
If you are flying from EWR on 402 or 403, you may want to revisit your seat assignments since the seating maps are drastically different.

What passengers in Newark may start seeing later this Spring!
