More Carriers Added To Miles & More Online Booking Portal…….

If you missed this in the November edition of the Miles & More Newsletter,  here’s what’s happening…

Miles & More has expanded the list of airlines whose flights you can book via MilesandMore.com.   Now, you can book flights that are operated by Air China, Air Canada, Aegean, ANA, and EVA.   Previously flights on these carriers could only be booked for award travel by calling a Miles&More service center.

Lufthansa has also indicated that additional Star Alliance member airlines will be added to this list by the end of the year, but did not indicate which airlines that would include.

Miles & More Changes Announced (At least partially)…..

Miles & More has begun to unveil what some of the changes will be to the program beginning later this year.    So far, it’s nothing to panic about and actually may be acceptable to most.

In the first phase, M&M is focusing on Intra-Europe award travel.   Specifically, it appears that ticket surcharges will decrease substantially and the amount of miles required to redeem a ticket will go up modestly.

Beginning with bookings made on September 15, 2016 or later, ‘Intra-Europe’ redemption surcharges will decrease from €40 to only €5 for Economy Class and for Business Class the fee will go down from €43 to €20.   This will apply to flights operated by LH Group Airlines.     As far as miles are concerned, Economy and Business Class ticket redemptions will increase by 5000 miles (roundtrip booking).

In reality this is a fairly ‘passenger friendly’ deal.   I’m sure most of us would be willing to spend 5k more miles instead of €20 to €35 more in fees.  For you dissenters, keep in mind it could have been much worse!

Expect changes to be announced for Intercontinental travel in the near future.

Targeted SWISS Offer: Book By July 20 And Earn Double Miles For N. American Bound Flights

Targeted SWISS Offer: Book By July 20 And Earn Double Miles For N. American Bound Flights

Check your email this morning!

SWISS has launched a promo that will award double miles for segments flown between Switzerland and SWISS’ gateways in North America.   The promo had been launched a few days ago, but not everyone got the email at the same time!

THE DETAILS:

You must register for the promotion by July 31 by using the link provided in your email.   I tried to recreate the link separately but I had no success.   I think you must use the link in the email!

The promo applies ONLY to Economy Class bookings.

You will earn 2x the AWARD miles that you would normally earn for your specific fare class.

Flights must be operated by SWISS.   There is an exception for Edelweiss LX8002 which flies between Zurich and Las Vegas.

Connecting flights do not count.  Only the transatlantic segments of a larger itinerary will earn the bonus award miles.

Travel must take place between August 10 and December 10, 2015 in order to earn the bonus miles.

There is a limit of 8 segments (4 Roundtrips, etc.) that will earn the bonus.

Available to Miles & More members worldwide.

At this point I do not know if a promo will come later today for travel originating in the USA.   The email that included this promo was intended for LX’s European market and arrived in my inbox at 9:45p Eastern, which means it will be waiting for Europeans when they wake up.  Hopefully their will be an email waiting for US based LX passengers in the morning.  However, even if you are US/North America based, you can take advantage of the promo if you have flights that will depart Switzerland for North America.

Miles & More USA Promo: SIXT Car Rental – 1500 miles, Free GPS, and 15% Off!

Miles & More USA Promo: SIXT Car Rental – 1500 miles, Free GPS, and 15% Off!

If you didn’t see your Miles & More monthly newsletter/email last week, you missed a decent deal coming from SIXT Car Rentals.

Between now and August 31, 2015 when you rent from SIXT in the USA you will be credited with 1500 Miles & More miles instead of the standard 500 mile award.  In addition, you’ll receive a free GPS unit for your vehicle if the car does not have it as standard equipment.  Another bonus is that SIXT is also discounting the daily rate by 15% as part of this promo.

This is a targeted offer and the only link that provides this discount is the one that you will find in your newsletter.   I’ve tried finding the link on the Miles & More website as well as Sixt’s website, but to no avail.  You’ll need to dig out that email!

For those of you unfamiliar with SIXT, they are a German based car rental company that has expanded to the USA.   They have a modest presence in the states and are typically in larger cities, near their airports.    I’ve used them several times this year and have had a good experience each time.

What sets them apart from car rental agencies that we are used to is that Sixt offers high end vehicles from Mercedes, Audi and BMW for prices that are similar to what other agencies charge for standard ‘fleet car’ type rentals.   This was the primary reason for me to change car rental loyalties to Sixt.   For those of you accustomed to driving nicer Euro cars, SIXT makes for a great alternative…..trust me!

For example, I’ll typically rent a BMW 5 or Mercedes E class and will wind up paying just $40-$75/day.    Sometimes you have to ‘stalk’ the rate and may need to lock it in at higher rates ($100-$150) when you first book a car, but I find that about 7-10 days before the rental is to start, I can rebook at a much lower rate.

So check your email and take advantage of the attractive deal!

Miles & More Members: Earn 1500 Miles With Qualified ACCOR Stays

ACCOR is currently holding a promotion in conjunction with Mile & More that awards program members with 1500 miles for qualified stays between now and February 28.

To qualify for this promotion you must be a Miles & More member as well as an Accor Le Club member. To register your Miles & More account with your LeClub account, please use this link. Additionally, you need to make sure that Miles & More is your preferred award partner on you Le Club account profile.

If you are not a Le Club member, you can sign up here.

As I mentioned earlier, the promotion applies to qualified stays and a “qualified” stay is defined differently based on what type of ACCOR property you stay at:

Sofitel, Pullman and MGallery Hotels: A qualified stay is one night.

Novotel, Suite Novotel, Mercure and Adagio: A qualified stay is two nights.

ibis and ibis Styles: A qualified stay is four nights.

Based on the terms and conditions, there do not seem to be limitations as to the amount of stays that are eligible for the bonus miles. Miles will post automatically to your Miles & More account approximately 2 weeks after each qualifying stay.
