Eurowings Is Going To Egypt…….

Eurowings Is Going To Egypt…….

It’s been a busy few days for Eurowings as they begin to update their Winter 2016/17 timetable.    First they announce service between Cologne and Havana, now they set their sights on Egypt.

Beginning on November 5, Eurowings will fly between Vienna and Marsa Alam,  a popular holiday destination in southeastern Egypt, along the shore of the Red Sea.  Wikipedia makes it look great.   This new destination fits the Eurowings agenda perfectly as they look to become a Low Cost Carrier option to unique holiday destinations normally not served by Lufthansa mainline service.

The new route will be flown by A321 aircraft and will operate once weekly on Saturdays:

Eurowings EW5910 will depart Vienna at 2:30p, arriving in Marsa Alam (RMF) at 7:40p.

Eurowings EW5911 will depart Marsa Alam at 8:20p, arriving in Vienna at 11:55p.

LUFTHANSA Is Owed Over $100 Million From Venezuela Government…..

LUFTHANSA Is Owed Over $100 Million From Venezuela Government…..

More details have come out on the heels of LH’s announcement on Saturday that it was suspending service to Venezuela next month.

According to LH sources, it appears that Maduro & Co. (the ‘government’ running VZ) owe Lufthansa over $100 million.

The problem with how the Venezuelans want to conduct business is the fact that LH has to charge in Venezuela’s local currency, the Bolivar, when collecting fares.   The problem with it is that Venezuela’s currency policy makes it nearly impossible for a company to repatriate revenue.  In this case, LH is stuck with holding Bolivars as the Bolivar market collapses and inflation is forecast to reach upward of 500-600% this year.

In essence this makes the Bolivar worth less than the ‘Kleenex’ that you carry in your bag.   LH has no way to convert the money to Dollars or Euros in order to salvage what remains of their capital in Venezuela.

It’s because of this plummeting valuation that LH was forced to suspend service since the Bolivars have in essence become worthless.  So much so that I expect LH to write off the $100 million and walk away from the disaster brought upon their balance sheet by Venezuela.

LUFTHANSA Launches New Morocco Destination

LUFTHANSA Launches New Morocco Destination

To compliment their existing service between Frankfurt and Casablanca, Lufthansa has announced new service between Munich and Marrakech.   Before this announcement, Munich passengers had to fly Brussels to ‘BRU’ in order to connect to a flight to Marrakech.

Here are the flight details:

LH 676 will depart Munich on Fridays at 10:45a, arriving in Marrakech at 1:30p.

LUFTHANSA Brings Back Frankfurt – Cape Town

LUFTHANSA Brings Back Frankfurt – Cape Town

Beginning December 2, Lufthansa will resume service between Frankfurt and Cape Town, South Africa.   Flights will operate 3 times a week aboard a 3-class A340-300 aircraft (Business / Prem Eco / Economy).    Departures will take place from Frankfurt on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays while return flights from Cape Town will operate on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays.    Here are the flight details:

Lufthansa LH576 will depart Frankfurt at 10:10p and arrive in Cape Town the following morning at 11:00a.  Flight time is scheduled for 11 hours 50 minutes.

Lufthansa LH577 will depart Cape Town at 6:30p and arrive in Frankfurt the following morning at 5:30a.   Flight time is scheduled for 12 hours.

Be mindful that when searching or booking for flights, it appears that First Class is available, but when you dig deeper, those fares book in ‘J’ fares which are Business Class seats.    Not sure why LH has that error in the booking system.  I blame the millennial hipsters in IT for that one.

Booking is now available on Lufthansa.com
