LUFTHANSA: Major Strikes For Next Week

LUFTHANSA: Major Strikes For Next Week

Lufthansa has announced that pilots will once again walk off the job for a substantial period next week.

On Tuesday, November 29, 2016 all short haul flights are subject to the strike from 12:01a until 11:59p.

Then on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, the union has called for strikes to ground ALL flights, both short and long haul flights scheduled to depart from Germany.  The strike on Wednesday will last from 12:01a until 11:59p.

Lufthansa will be publishing a special timetable for Tuesday and Wednesday.   Expect it to be available by 2:00pm on Monday (Frankfurt Time).   You can check on your flight status by clicking this link.

Keep in mind that Lufthansa DID NOT have to cancel all the flights that were targeted by the insane union leadership during the previous strikes.  In fact, LH was able to operate a significant amount of flights during each strike day.

If your flights are affected, you must call the airline or travel agency that issued your ticket.   If your ticket is not issued  by Lufthansa, do not call them directly, they will be unable to help and you’ll spend a lot of time on hold for no reason.  If you redeemed miles for your LH flight, call the frequent flyer program that issued your ticket.

If your ticket is issued by LH, you can go online to LH.com to review your options, or call your local LH customer service center.

LUFTHANSA Updates South Africa Timetable

LUFTHANSA Updates South Africa Timetable

Aside from all of this strike talk, Lufthansa did take time to announce that they have made a change that impacts their service to Cape Town, South Africa.

Until now, Lufthansa flew between Frankfurt and Cape Town only during the winter season in the northern hemispehere, which is the same time that South Africa enjoys its summer.   Beginning with their Spring/Summer timetable, the route will be flown year-around.   The 3 weekly flights will continue to be the same:

Lufthansa flight LH576 will depart Frankfurt at 10:15p on Wednesday/Friday/Sunday.   The flight arrives in Cape Town at 10:00a the following morning.

Lufthansa flight LH577 will depart Cape Town at 5:40p on Monday/Thursday/Saturday.  The flight arrives in Frankfurt at 5:40a the following morning.

Lufthansa will continue to use the Airbus A340-300 on the route.

Daily service between Frankfurt and Johannesburg remains unchanged.

Saturday Strike To Have Minimal Impact

Entering into day 4 of the pilot union strike, Lufthansa expects to have minimal impact from cancelled flights for Saturday, Nomvember 26.

As it stands, Lufthansa expects to only have to cancel 137 flights, however 88 of them are long-haul flights.    The union had called for short haul strikes today (Friday Nov. 25), and long haul strikes for the 26th, thus the large percentage of long haul cancellations.  Considering that LH operates over 3000 flights a day, Saturday should allow most passengers to get to their destinations.

Even though only 137 flights will be affected, it still translates in thousands of passengers that will be inconvenienced.   If you are traveling on a long haul flight on Saturday, please use this link to check on the status of your flight.    When I looked at the US cancelled list, several flights were shown as still being scheduled, so there is hope if you are traveling between Germany and the US on Saturday.

If your flight is impacted, you can call your LH reservation center or rebook via LH.com.   Simply pull up your booking, and if your flight is affect, the website will show you your options.
