As a reminder, only 2 days remain in United’s Mileage Plus sale that is awarding up to 100% bonus miles when you buy miles for your account. The offer wraps up on November 20, 2017 and with this deal, you can buy miles for as low as 1.75 cents per mile which is pretty good.
For example, buying the maximum amount of miles (75,000), will yield you 150,000 miles for $2625.00. Not a bad price if you need to fill your account with miles to get a First Class ticket on Lufthansa or other premium cabin travel.
Remember, you can only buy a total of 150,000 miles a year (including the bonus miles you get during a sale). If you need a lot of miles in short order, you’ll be able to start buying miles on January 1 if you max out your 2017 purchases.
The deal is broken up into brackets as shown below. The more miles you buy, the better the bonus:
Buy between 5,000 and 9,000 miles and you’ll get a 25% bonus.
Buy between 10,000 and 29,000 miles and you’ll get a 50% bonus.
Buy between 30,000 and 75,000 miles and you’ll get a 100% bonus.

Yes this is slightly off-topic for me, but when I saw the headline it made me smile and shake my head at the same time…..
Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company, a train operator in Tokyo, Japan expressed regret when one of it’s scheduled trains left a station early on their Tsukuba Express line. Wait for it……….A whopping 20 seconds early.
The offending train apparently departed the Minami-Nagareyama station 20 seconds prior to schedule, prompting the company to quickly enter damage control for the transgression.
According to the company, the train’s crew failed to check their watches to ensure they left exactly on time and the company issued an apology to customers that may have been adversely impacted by their rush to get out of the station. The company noted that the train was supposed to leave at 9:44:40am but raced out of the station at 9:44:20am. The operator also stated that the train crew has since received appropriate training (get it?) to ensure this does not happen again.
The apology from the company came quickly after this unfathomable sin stating, “We deeply apologize for the severe inconvenience imposed upon our customers”. The operator also indicated that no customers expressed any outrage at this egregious lack of responsibility. Apparently anyone that missed this train because of the miscue could catch the next train on the same line 4 minutes later.
Imagine if the airline industry adopted this kind of scrutiny to their timetable? Haha and LOL. 🙂

A few days ago, Austrian updated their timetable to reflect frequency changes to Hong Kong and aircraft changes on flights to Newark.
The changes are slated to take effect for the Winter 2018/19 schedule so they’re still subject to additional adjustments, but as it stands today here’s what will be happening:
Beginning October 28, Vienna – Hong Kong will increase from 3x/week to 4x/week.
Beginning October 28, flights between Vienna and Newark will be flown by their 777 and 767 aircraft. The 4 weekly flights between VIE and EWR will be split between the 2 aircraft types. Specific days for each type have not been assigned as yet.
