In their punitive manner, Ver.di, the union which represents a significant amount of Airport employees throughout Germany has called on its members to strike at both Munich and Nuremberg Airport on Tuesday, March 25.
According to the union, 120 Munich aircraft handlers will walk off the job at 3:30a. The Union has also called on employees to strike at noon, but it is not clear who that would involve at this point.
Nuremberg Airport will be impacted as well as airport employees will strike between 6:00a and 8:00a. This will include the Airport’s Fire Department as well.
Cancellations have already been announced at the airports. Use this link to check the status of your flight.
Apparently this immature tactic is geared to draw attention from the airport operating authorities one day ahead of a scheduled negotiation session.
If your flights are transiting these airports, please be prepared for cancelations and delays. If you are flying Lufthansa, please call the airline to see if you run the risk of being impacted and to sort out alternative travel arrangements. Lufthansa does have a webpage that you can look to which provides updates on possible flight disruptions but it has not been updated as of yet.

According to this piece from Reuters, Frankfurt Airport is under threat of yet another strike from its employees. Ver.di, the union representing these employees has suggested that a strike is imminent and will take place on Thursday due to the lack of progress in negotiations with the airport operating authority. This comes on the heels of a strike last month when security screeners decided to walk off the job creating significant delays and cancellations for travelers transiting FRA.
I could not find any other details regarding this recent announcement, but no doubt that we will hear more as Thursday nears. This is the 4th or 5th strike that I can recall in this year alone that is affecting air travel in Europe. You would think that the EU would somehow figure out a way to intervene and prevent these antics from becoming habits. I guess this is what happens when the inmates run the asylum…….
And by the way, Italian Air Traffic controllers are still promising a strike on March 30th.

Looks like the French union representing Air Traffic Controllers is not bluffing this time and is prepared for a strike to take place throughout the day tomorrow that will affect Air Traffic throughout France.
According to EuroControl, heavy delays are expected throughout the day for flights transiting French Airspace along with high cancellation rates at French airports. Expectations are that 30% of flights in and out of Paris will be canceled with up to 20% of flights being canceled in Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and Nice.
From what I understand there was to be another attempt to avert the strike later this afternoon, but I’m not sure if this is the case at this point.
If your plans tomorrow call for being in an aircraft in or above France, expect it to be a difficult day, especially if you are on short-haul flights since those are the types that are typically canceled. You may want to consider alternative travel methods tomorrow if you are working with a tight schedule.
