Seven months ago, Austrian first announced that it was planning to begin service this Spring between Vienna and Los Angeles.
Today, the first flights for the new route took place as OS81 departed for Los Angeles at 10:00a and the return flight (OS82) departed back to Vienna shortly after 3:00p.
The route will be flown 6 days a week (No flights on Sundays) by their 777 fleet and will be in place for Austrian’s summer timetable through October.
This brings Austrian’s total weekly flights to the USA to 37. In addition to the new LAX route, OS flies to Miami, New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, and Washington DC.

Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific have announced a new codesharing agreement that will make it easier for Lufthansa Group passengers to travel to Australia and for Cathay passengers to reach 14 new European destinations.
The deal takes effect on April 26 and covers Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines.
For LH Group passengers, this means they will be able to book travel on a single ticket issued by Lufthansa, Swiss, and Austrian that will include flights operated by Cathay Pacific. The codeshare specifically includes being able to book travel to Sydney, Auckland, Melbourne, and Cairns.
Traveling to these destinations will now be possible with LH Group flights to Hong Kong, then connecting to Cathay Pacific flights the the aforementioned destinations.

UPDATE: Since publishing this post, Lufthansa has now cancelled flights to and from Philadelphia on March 14, 2017.
With Blizzard Warnings spreading throughout the Northeast Corridor, airlines are beginning to announce cancellations ahead of the incoming storm.
Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian are not immune to mother nature thus they have announced that flights to and from New York / Newark and Boston will be cancelled for Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
Flights from Philadelphia and Washington DC are scheduled to operate normally.
As of the time of this post Brussels still showed their flights as being scheduled but that may change sooner than later.
