Being reported by Reuters, UFO’s Nicoley Baublies stated that he has reached out to Lufthansa in an effort to resolve the strike. Negotiations are scheduled to resume Friday afternoon.
Also in his comments, Baublies indicated no further strikes are planned beyond beyond the current 24 hour strike current in effect. Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of the tensions between the Union’s members and Lufthansa.
It’s interesting to note that Mr. Baublies is the one who reached out to Lufthansa in an effort to move negotiations forward.
As long as both sides are talking constructively, I think strike actions are unlikely to take place.
UPDATE: In a press release from Frankfurt, Lufthansa has agreed to permanently hire the cabin crew that was hired through an outside contractor.
In what appears to be an a token of good will towards the Union who’s cabin crew members are currently on strike, Lufthansa’s CEO Cristoph Franz stated that “Without preconditions and for a foreseeable time frame Lufthansa is going to resign from deploying external cabin crews in Berlin” he also added: “With this decision we are taking a big step towards our social partners. We hope that this step will help the trade union UFO to, within the scope of constructive talks together with us, tread a path leading to a sustainable and competitive wage structure for our cabin staff.”
Definitely a sign of what should be warming relations between the Union and Lufthansa.

For those of you that may not be aware, Lufthansa has cancelled approximately 42 flights for today. At first glance it appears that all North and South American flights to Frankfurt and Munich have been cancelled.
It’s unfortunately a logical and good move considering the 24 hour strike that is set to take place by the cabin crew tomorrow, September 7. There is no sense in Lufthansa bringing in thousands of passengers who would most likely be helpless to go anywhere once they arrived to Germany.
Lufthansa has already cancelled 1200 flights for Friday ahead of the all day strike that has been announced by the cabin crew union. Additionally Lufthansa has also cancelled 13 flights thus far going into September 8. Most of the September 8 cancellations are mid-east based destinations. The friday cancellations represent about 1/3 of Lufthansa’s normal timetable.
For the latest information on affected flights, the best place to look is Lufthansa’s Flight Cancellation webpage.
My gut tells me that this may become a protracted event as both sides are standing firmly by their positions.

Most of you may have seen this, so apologies in advance. With me being in Singapore and with time zone differences and WIFI wonky-ness, I haven’t been able to keep close tabs on whats been happening with the cabin crew strike.
However, the union has called its most aggressive move to date, and will strike for an entire 24 hour period on Friday, 7 September. The strike is set to begin at 12:01a Friday and last through 11:59p.
UFO’s “leadership” has called on Lufthansa to enter mediation at which point the union would stop these strike actions, but as of now Lufthansa has decline to do so stating that it’s current offer is worth serious consideration and does not require being mediated.
Currently, there are approximately 22 flights cancelled for today, and 2 are cancelled for tomorrow. Most of the flights are either intra-Germany or intra-Europe at this point. Only Delhi and Dubai have been canceled as far as true “international” flights are concerned.

I have about 20 hours of flights coming up in the next 24 hours, and after that I’ll finally be able to keep track of the strike in “real time”.
