Thanks to the cancer of strikes that continues to spread throughout Europe in the past weeks, BRUSSELS Airlines has become the latest victim.
Due to a 24 hour strike by Belgium’s Air Traffic Controllers set to begin Sunday night at 10p local time, BRUSSELS has been forced to cancel ALL flights for the duration of the strike.
Apparently some of the 745 Belgocontrol employees are jealous of other striking colleagues throughout Europe and want their 24 hours of fame…..
To help passengers deal with the consequences, BRUSSELS has increased the staffing at their customer service centers to help make other arrangements. BRUSSELS has also extend their customer service center hour to accommodate those needing to amend their travels. Passengers will have the ability to rebook their travel to an earlier or later date or they can request a complete refund of their fare.
If you are in the USA and are affected by the strike you can reach their service center on 1.866.308.2230. For contact information for other countries, please visit this Brussels webpage which will give you an index to all of the contact phone numbers.

This post is not by any stretch intended to address the breaking news or stir panic regarding a NY City Doctor who has tested positive for Ebola tonight, October 23 other than to alert passengers who may have been on his flight.
This is simply to bring attention to anyone who was aboard BRUSSELS AIRLINES flight 501 from Brussels, Belgium to New York JFK on October 17 that there may have been the minute potential for exposure to the virus. According to this ABC story, sources have confirmed that he was aboard this specific flight.
It appears to be difficult to contract the virus but please be wary of any symptoms over the next few days.
Apparently this doctor had connected to his flight after arriving in Brussels on October 16 from Guinea. It’s not clear if he flew Brussels from Guinea to Brussels BUT it seems highly likely since Brussels flies from Conarky, Guinea to Brussels, Belgium.
The CDC (Center For Disease Control) has not issued any alerts to Brussels Airlines or their passengers that were aboard this flight.

BRUSSELS Airlines has opened a brand new Lounge at Brussels Airports today which creates an entirely new and fresh experience for the airline’s loyal travelers (Star Alliance Gold members included!).
Referred to as “The Loft”, the new lounge offers passengers 13,500 square feet of space and is broken up into 8 different hubs, each with a different theme or purpose. “The Loft” is nearly 4 times the size of its predecessor which should alleviate overcrowding concerns. The lounge provides travelers with access to private bathrooms complete with showers as well as what ‘SN’ refers to as ‘NapBoxes’ for passengers looking to close there eyes for a few hours in between flights.
The lounge is designed to host up to 300 guests at one time and provides a few amenities that are fairly unique. One of the more attractive amenities is the ability for lounge guests to borrow one of the lounge’s Surface Pro 3 tablets during their visit. The tablet comes with a “Lounge Assistant” app that allows users to check flight status and book the use of a shower or ‘napbox’. The app also provides video-on-demand through YELO. If technology is not your strong suit, Brussels has provided their lounge staff with specialized ‘Butler Training’ to further assist you during your stay.
The following photos should provide a good first look at the lounge and some of the amenities that you’ll find (all photos courtesy of BRUSSELS Airlines):

LUFTHANSA GROUP has announced that flights operating to and from Israel are canceled through at least June 24. This extends the ban another 24 hours from their previous announcement yesterday.
The reason for the cancellation is out of an abundance of caution after rockets landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport yesterday. In light of the recent shoot down of the Malaysian 777 over the Ukraine, this does seem to be an appropriate response.
This affects 20 flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, germanwings and Brussels. If your itinerary is affected, please use this link to find contact information for Lufthansa in your country.
