LUFTHANSA Business Class Holiday Special: USA To Europe As Low As $2100!

LUFTHANSA Business Class Holiday Special: USA To Europe As Low As $2100!

To complement the First Class Fare Sale currently underway, LUFTHANSA has also lowered their Business Class fares for the Holiday Season.    These kind of fare sales are an annual event each holiday season where passengers can usually save upwards of 50% or more from regular fare rates.

The highlight for this sale is for travel between New York and Dusseldorf for only $2100.   Otherwise most East Coast departures to Lufthansa’s European destinations range between $2200 and $2600.   Departures from the West Coast start at only $3200.     The best value as far as cents-per-mile is concerned is perhaps Houston – Istanbul which is showing for only $2990.

As with the First Class Sale currently underway, these fares are available only until November 17, 2014.  Departures must take place between December 15 and January 3.   Return flights must take place between December 22 and January 17.  The fares are valid for flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels, Air Canada and United.

My personal recommendation is to fly aboard Lufthansa, Austrian or SWISS operated flights.  All have excellent Business Class cabins and hospitality.   In my opinion your best experience may come aboard a Lufthansa 747-8i which are all outfitted with the new Business Class seat that has been very popular with passengers.  For the best 747-8i experience, sit in the upper deck — it provides a very quiet and ‘private’ jet type of an experience.

Lufthansa Flyer Giveaway

Lufthansa Flyer Giveaway

To re-live the moment when Germany emerged as the FIFA World Cup Champion earlier this year, I’m giving away a Lufthansa Business Class Amenity Kit that was specially commissioned by LH for the World Cup.  The kit appeared for only a few weeks during the World Cup so it is a bit on the rare side as far as collectibility goes.

SWISS’ Fantastic Business Class Sale: USA To Europe For As Low As $1899!

SWISS’ Fantastic Business Class Sale: USA To Europe For As Low As $1899!

It’s that time of year again!  The time when airlines start offering fantastic Business Class fares to Europe for travel during the Thanksgiving Holiday.

SWISS has launched their Business Class fare sale to Europe with fares starting as low as $1899 for travel to Barcelona from New York.

Most of the fares for this sale are ranging in the low to mid $2000 level from the East Coast while fares from the West Coast range in the very low $3000 range.   Great fares!

I sampled a few fares, and found that this deal is available for travel between November 22 and December 1 with very good availability from their USA gateways.  The Business Fares are being booked as ‘P’ fares.

Please pay SPECIAL ATTENTION to who will be operating your flight.  Most of the fares that I sampled had SWISS as the carrier for the transatlantic segments.  However, there were pockets where United and Air Canada were options.    My suggestion is to make sure you fly on SWISS to fully enjoy the experience.

SWISS is consistently recognized as having one of the best Business Class experiences in the industry.   If you’re going to spend $2000-$3000 to travel, you may as well fly with one of the best!

Update: LUFTHANSA Business Class Retrofit Timeline

Update: LUFTHANSA Business Class Retrofit Timeline

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to review with Lufthansa their timeline and installation progress for the new long-haul Business Class cabin interior.    A few weeks ago I provided data on specific tail numbers that had the new seating, this update looks more at the timeline going forward for the fleet at large.

The table below covers the entire period of the Business Class retrofit going back to 2013 and extends into mid-2015 when the retrofit is expected to be complete.  If you look closely, you’ll see a noticeable decrease in the number of  747-400 aircraft going into 2015.   This is as a result of Lufthansa retiring certain aircraft from service between now and next Spring.  You’ll also notice large leaps between the end of 2014 and mid-2015.  This is due to the fact that several long haul aircraft will be rotated out of service for maintenance and retrofit during Winter 2014/15 when fewer routes are flown with long haul aircraft.
