After weeks of conversations, emails and meetings with Lufthansa, LufthansaFlyer will debut it’s own duck for all passengers traveling on select flights between the USA and Germany and also for all passengers who will be visiting Lufthansa’s Senator lounges in Germany. The promotion will run during May and June or until we run out of ducks. If the duck is received well, there will be another version later this year.
Of course this duck is not here to replace the highly sought after First Class Lounge Ducks that Lufthansa provides as souvenirs to First Class passengers, but I’m thrilled that my modest duck will become part of the family and tradition of Lufthansa Ducks. Should you be fortunate enough to get one, please send me pictures of the ducks in their new homes!
To see the preliminary schedule please click here to be taken to the official release that has the specific dates and routes that you’ll be able to find this new and hopefully collectible new duck.
Here is a sneak peek of what you can expect to see on board Lufthansa flights from the USA and in Senator lounges in Germany:

Just a brief update after exchanging emails with my contacts at LH who confirm that Lufthansa will bring the Boeing 747-8i to Miami for a limited time. If you recall I had commented on the rumor of this happening in a post last week, and it looks like it has come to fruition.
Beginning May 30, the 747-8i will fly between Frankfurt and Miami 2 days a week, on Thursdays and Fridays.
At this point, I do not know when the 747-8i will stop serving Miami, but from what I understand it will be for a short duration. If I learn anything more, I’ll pass along the info.
In related news, Lufthansa received their latest 747-8i yesterday, and it will be entering service in the coming weeks.

It’s been a busy few days for Lufthansa and their fleet of 747-8i aircraft and a special thanks to the members in the Miles & More forum on FlyerTalk for some of these insights.
The latest developments:
The newest edition, D-ABYG was delivered earlier this week and is set to take on Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Hong Kong route starting March 31.
There has been some unconfirmed talk about the 747-8i making a cameo appearance in Miami in the coming months as Miami goes into off-peak season for Lufthansa. The 747-8i would replace the A380 during certain parts of the schedule. There has been no official word from Lufthansa, but my sources in the past have been nothing short of very credible when it comes to these kind of scenarios.
Lastly, it looks as though the 747-8i’s appearance in Chicago will be delayed into late summer or potentially early fall. The issue lies with certain waivers that need to be granted by the FAA that would allow the 747-8i to operate out of Chicago. The 747-8i would be the largest aircraft to visit Chicago and there are some issues regarding the use of taxiways between the arrival terminal (T5) and the departure terminal (T1). When an international flight arrives in Chicago, it parks at the International Terminal (T5), and in Lufthansa’s case, their departures take place from Terminal 1 (Concourse B). Apparently it will be a tight squeeze for a 747-8i to taxi from T5 to T1 so special provisions need to be put in place ahead of the 747-8i’s visit to the windy city.

This may not be breaking news, but I was reading through this month’s edition of ‘Airports International’ and saw a write up about new kiosks being installed throughout the airport designed to improve the passenger experience. I thought this may be useful to those of you planning a trip that takes you through Frankfurt in the future.
If you’ve ever used Frankfurt(FRA), you’ll know what I mean when I say it’s not the world’s friendliest airport in terms of “user friendliness”. With 2 Terminals, several concourses (A, B,C and Z in terminal 1 and D,E in Terminal 2), multiple security check points, etc. “FRA” can become frustrating fairly quickly. It’s one of the world’s best for plane spotting, but leaves a few things to be desired when it comes to helping passengers navigate the facility.
The new kiosks set out to change this. The Kiosks are touch-screen units designed to scan your Boarding Pass and using the information in your “BP”, will help direct you in the most efficient way possible as far as getting to security and to your gate. The airport operating authority “FRAPORT” plans on installing 90 of these Kiosks in both terminals in the coming months.
An example of the new Kiosks (courtesy of Airports International):
