Frankfurt Spotting March 2015: Non-Lufthansa Liveries Part I

Frankfurt Spotting March 2015: Non-Lufthansa Liveries Part I

After spending some time in FRA last week, which of course created ample opportunity to spend time taking a few photos, I finally have had a chance to begin sorting through my memory cards.

For the first installment, I’ll focus on non-Lufthansa liveries.   Frankfurt’s position as a truly global airport provides spotters the opportunity to see aircraft that they may not normally see otherwise.  In my case, I have no chance to see an Iran Air or an Air Europa aircraft in the US which makes spotting in FRA so enjoyable.

Here are a few shots that I thought provide a unique look at liveries that most people would never see unless they are able to be at a place like FRA on a regular basis.    The next installment will of course focus on some of my favorite LH shots, of which there are hundreds.

LUFTHANSA: Plans Coming Together For 60th Anniversary Celebration!

LUFTHANSA: Plans Coming Together For 60th Anniversary Celebration!

To mark their 60th Anniversary, LUFTHANSA is set to start the party on April 15 in Frankfurt where it will invite upwards of 4,000 of their employees, business partners and other friends to gather in the A380 Hangar.    To lead the list Germany’s Chancellor, Angela Merkel will open the Ceremony.

The gathering will be used to show attendees where Lufthansa has come from, where it is, and where it is going.   I suspect the 747-8i retro-jet (D-ABYT) might make a cameo appearance as well.

If plans and security checks work out (because of Merkel & because I’m a ‘foreigner’),  I’ll be sharing my experiences with you on April 16!

Lufthansa Removes A380 From Houston For 2 Weeks….BUT…..

Lufthansa will be removing the A380 from their Frankfurt – Houston route for 2 weeks but fret not, it will be replaced by a 747-8i during that time.  Could IAH possibly see?:

The exact dates of the swap is scheduled to take place from March 29 to April 8 according to Lufthansa.com’s booking engine.  I’ll provide an additional update should this schedule change.

The swap is taking place because of the Premium Economy & New Business Class retrofit schedule for the A380.

LUFTHANSA Business Class Check-In Changes In Frankfurt

LUFTHANSA Business Class Check-In Changes In Frankfurt

Lufthansa began remodeling their Business Class check-in counters at Frankfurt Airport today.    The work is expected to continue until the first part of March.

Passengers traveling in Business Class as well as Miles&More ‘Frequent Travelers’ can use the First Class check-in area located at counters 56-67 in Terminal 1, Hall A.   In other words,  at the east end of Terminal 1 or to your right when you walk into the airport.   Senators of course continue to use the First Class check-in counters.

LUFTHANSA Delays A380 To Seoul & 747-8i To Boston

Lufthansa has updated their timetable to reflect a minor delay for the introduction of the A380 between Frankfurt and Seoul.    Originally planned for April 26, the A380 will now debut on the route on May 6, 2015.

As a result of this minor delay, Frankfurt – Boston will have the 747-8i delayed until May 7.   Originally, the 747-8i was set to begin flying FRA-BOS on April 27.

If your travels involve these days and routes, please check your assigned seats and make changes as needed since the A380 and 747-8i have ‘slightly’ different seating charts! 😉
