LUFTHANSA And ETIHAD Announce Codeshare Agreement

LUFTHANSA And ETIHAD Announce Codeshare Agreement

In an announcement from Frankfurt earlier today, Lufthansa has announced that it has entered into a codeshare arrangement with Etihad geared towards making it easier for the airlines to expand their reach.

The expansion of the relationship between the 2 carriers continues to evolve after LH agreed to lease a substantial part of Air Berlin’s fleet to help AB stave off further financial turmoil.  Etihad is a major stakeholder in Air Berlin and they were very supportive of the arrangement which allows AB to refocus their efforts.  That deal was finalized today as well.

The codesharing relationship starts in January 2017 and will cover Etihad’s 2 daily flights between Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi and their 2 daily flights between Munich and Abu Dhabi.   What this means is that there will be an Lufthansa flight number (LH xxx) assigned to the Etihad operated flights, so that Lufthansa passengers can book travel on those specific Etihad flights directly from LH.com or through their travel agents.

In turn, Etihad will will assign their flight numbers to Lufthansa operated flights that operate from Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro and Bogota.  This allows Etihad to book their passengers directly onto these LH flights.

Please note that flights operated by Etihad will not earn any miles towards Miles & More balances, or any other Star Alliance Frequent Flyer program.

LUFTHANSA Completes BRUSSELS Acquisition

LUFTHANSA Completes BRUSSELS Acquisition

LUFTHANSA has announced that Brussels Airlines has become wholly owned by the Lufthansa Group and will join the Eurowings division.  The arrangement is scheduled to be closed in January 2017 and full integration is expected by 2018.   Lufthansa acquired the remaining 55% it did not own at a cost of 2.6 million Euros.

Quick facts regarding Brussels

According to LH, there will be no immediate changes to how Brussels operates, in fact it appears that things will remain the same for the foreseeable future due to the perfect complement that Brussels is to LH Group as far as routes and fleet are concerned.   It is expected that Brussels will continue to fly to their 23 ‘long-haul’ and 79 ‘short-haul’ destinations.

Becoming part of the Eurowings group will further expand Lufthansa’s presence into the low cost carrier market within Europe where they face significant competition from the likes of Ryanair and easy Jet.    Being able to plug in 51 aircraft into Eurowings with immediate effect will certainly be to LH’s advantage.

Brussels fleet information

No plans have been announced as far as any significant livery changes.   LH would rather ‘SN’ keep their unique and successful brand identity.   The only change that we’ll see on the aircraft is a small footnote that Brussels is a member of ‘The Eurowings Group’.    Changes to the reservation system and other passenger-based services are not immediately expected.

LUFTHANSA’s Tante Ju Set To Return To The Skies

LUFTHANSA’s Tante Ju Set To Return To The Skies

After being grounded for all of this year due to some minor damage which then resulted in a decision to carryout more thorough maintenance, Tante Ju (D-AQUI) is being prepared to return to active service in June 2017.

Technicians from Lufthansa Technik have been working literally around the clock for the last several months to make sure that all the work is completed to their high expectations so that the Ju 52 can return in better shape than when she was new nearly 80 years ago.

With all this said, her schedule has been announced for the Summer and Fall of 2017 and can be found here.    The schedule covers a myriad of flights in Germany as well as some special appearances in Europe to celebrate certain key events.    Some flights are already booked up, so don’t wait too long to decide.  The link will also allow you to book your flights.

Being the rarest bird in the Lufthansa fleet, a flight aboard Tante Ju would be a feather in any aviation enthusiast’s cap!

LUFTHANSA To Scandinavia Ex-USA For As Low As $350…..

LUFTHANSA To Scandinavia Ex-USA For As Low As $350…..

That’s not a typo….

Lufthansa has launched a fare sale targeting the Nordics with amazing deals.   By far and away the best pricing is from Boston which has the lowest fare of the sale with a $349 deal to Copenhagen.  On a per mile basis, Seattle comes in with an attractive value to Stockholm for only $469!

Aside from these good deals, most fares to the Nordics from the East Coast range in the $500-600 range and from $700-900 from the West Coast.

Before you say anything about traveling to the North when its the middle of Winter, ask yourself when was the last time you saw the ‘Northern Lights’ light up the evening sky as if it were day?  Or where else on the planet can you take in the quiet beauty of Winter that is only possible in Scandinavia?    Keep in mind that it’s ‘off season’ as well, so there will be great deals to be had on lodging as well.  Like those Hotels made out of Ice for example!

The terms are as follows:

Tickets must be purchased by December 31, 2016

Tickets must be purchased at least 10 days ahead of depature date

You can depart between December 24 and April 6, 2017

You must return by October 6, 2017

If you book travel on Weekend Day you may be subject to a $60 surcharge.
