In the coming days and weeks, Business Class passengers traveling on Lufthansa will be greeted by a new and improved Amenity Kit. Considering the Business Class kits used in the past, this looks like a fairly good upgrade.
The kit, from Samsonite, will feature a few minor updates to the contents as LH shifts to ‘Korres’ products. The kit will be available in Black and White versions and should be showing up on long haul flights very soon, if not already in circulation….

by Lufthansa Flyer | Aug 8, 2014 | Contests, Featured, Lufthansa |
For those of you residing in the United Kingdom (or at least have a valid mailing address within it), Lufthansa is giving you the opportunity to win an iPad. The contest celebrates the recent launch of their JetFriends app which is specifically geared towards entertaining young children with travel and airplane related games, challenges, etc.
The contest is a relatively easy one to enter. All you need to do is to capture a funny quote from your child and submit it as the entry. The top 6 quotes as determined by Lufthansa will win a prize. The overall 1st place winner will receive an Apple iPad. The remaining finalists will receive a Beach Goodie Bag.
The contest runs through September 15 and you are allowed only one entry per person. You may want to start keeping track of all the precious things that little ‘Ruttiger’ has to say and then submit his funniest comment near the entry deadline. Use this link to visit the Contest’s Entry Page.
In addition to this contest, if you sign up for JetFriends, you’ll find another contest within the website that will give away a child’s snorkel set for the funniest travel or holiday related photo. You’ll find details for that contest here.
To find out more about the JetFriends app, please visit the JetFriends homepage where you can learn more and sign up so that your child can be entertained and educated for hours!

I normally don’t reach out to you asking for help but in this case I am making an exception…..
LUFTHANSA has been nominated as one of the finalists in SimpliFlying’s 2014 award for Best Airline In Social Media and there’s good reason for it! When you consider LH’s presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Google +, Pinterest and other social media outlets, it’s easy to see that they are among the most active and effective airlines when it comes to Social Media interaction with passengers and fans and why they deserve a vote!
For example, Lufthansa has 12 Twitter accounts, each for a different region of the world that they serve so that passengers have a local exposure to the airline and in many cases, in their native language. This doesn’t include Twitter accounts by other LH Group companies or divisions, but strictly for the passenger airline division. After doing the math, Lufthansa’s passenger airline Twitter accounts have sent out over 68,000 Tweets to over 377,000 Followers around the world.
In addition to their active presence on Twitter, Lufthansa has also built quite a portfolio of other Social Media outlets:
Facebook:
Lufthansa: This is the main Facebook page for Lufthansa with a whopping 1.7 million likes and is one of Lufthansa’s main Social Media outlets. Visitors will find up to date information on flight operations, contests and promotions. Visitors can also post messages for Lufthansa.
Lufthansa USA: Over 110,000 “Likes” and the source of helpful information, customer service and contests and like the main Facebook page, visitors can ask questions directly to Lufthansa representatives who’ll help resolve travel related issues.
YouTube:
Lufthansa’s Channel: With well over 200 videos, Lufthansa uses YouTube to take you behind the scenes on a variety of topics of interest to passengers and ‘avgeeks’. You’ll find everything from Aircraft videos to employees who take you behind the scenes at the airline. Over 16,300 Subscribers receive regular updates and access to new content!
Google +:
Lufthansa Google+: LH launched their Google+ account on June 25, and are using the outlet to share fantastic aviation related content. You’ll find a variety of Lufthansa related video and photo content including vintage looks at the history of airline. They are actively adding content to build this new channel and it’s worth a visit and a ‘Follow’.
Instagram:
Lufthansa Instagram: Lufthansa uses its Instagram account to reach over 33,000 followers with great images of Lufthansa destinations, aircraft and special events.
Tumblr:
Lufthansa Tumblr: LH uses Tumblr to share content that is typically important to passengers including information on fleet enhancements and normal airline news. You’ll also find occasional games and contests on here as well.
Pinterest:
Lufthansa Pinterest: Here you’ll find ’10 Boards’ designed specifically for the Lufthansa passenger. The LH Pinterest page features travel tips and helpful information on a variety of topics.
Now that you are a bit more familiar with the reach that Lufthansa has through a variety of Social Media outlets, I hope that you can see your way to vote for Lufthansa and their Social Media team. Winning the category becomes a major bragging right for the winner since few travel industry award programs recognize marketing or social media.
After nearly 4 years of getting to know the teams personally both in the USA and Germany, I can genuinely say you couldn’t vote for a nicer group of individuals! 🙂
Voting for the award closes on Friday, August 8 at Midnight US Eastern time.
Paid for by the ‘Friends Of Lufthansa’ SuperPac and they approve this message…. 😉
by Lufthansa Flyer | Aug 5, 2014 | Austrian, Fare Sale, Featured, Lufthansa, Swiss |
In case you missed the announcements on Monday, Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian advertised a special 3-day fare sale between the USA and Europe. All 3 fare sales end on August 6.
Starting with Lufthansa, their fare sale covers travel all the way through June 12, 2015. The best offer appears to be between New York and Dusseldorf for only $810. Otherwise nearly every other fare between the USA and LH destinations in Europe is below $1000. The only exception being Seattle-Munich which is available for $1050. It is always a good deal when you can fly from LAX or San Francisco to Europe for less than $1000!
The terms/conditions state that you must depart between October 26, 2014 and March 12, 2015. Return travel must take place between November 2, 2014 and June 12, 2015. The only black-out period for this fare sale is during the Christmas holiday, December 12 through January 5.
SWISS’ fare sale is similar but is broken up into 2 travel windows. The fares are similar to Lufthansa and most of SWISS’ European destinations from the USA can be reached for less than $1000. The first part of the fare sale covers travel between August 24 and October 25 while the second installment of the fare sale covers travel between October 26 and December 11, 2014 as well as between January 7 and March 12, 2015. Their terms/conditions are a bit ambiguous but from testing a few different options, it appears that a 6 night minimum stay may be required.
And not to be out done, Austrian’s version of the fare sale may be the most attractive. Most of Austrian’s fares between the US and Europe are below $900, with the best fare being a very attractive one between New York’s JFK and Vienna for only $800. Bundle that deal with a couple of Business Class upgrades that you can purchase for approximately $800 each way and you can experience OS’ fantastic Business Class for less than $2500 round trip! Trust me when I say it is fantastic!
As with the other deals, the Austrian fares are valid for travel between October 26 and December 11, 2015 or between January 7 and March 12, 2015.
Keep mind that all 3 fare sales end on August 6!
