SWISS: Flight Cancellations Ahead Of US East Coast Storm

SWISS: Flight Cancellations Ahead Of US East Coast Storm

What should come as no surprise, SWISS has cancelled their flights that will be affected by the Winter Storm set to impact the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday.

The following is the list of flight cancellations thus far by SWISS for January 26, 2015:

LX16:  Zurich – New York (JFK)
LX14:  Zurich – New York (JFK)
LX18:  Zurich – New York (EWR)
LX22:  Geneva- New York JFK (JFK)

LX17:  New York (JFK) – Zurich
LX15:  New York (JFK) – Zurich
LX23:  New York (JFK) Geneva
LX19:  New York (EWR) – Zurich

Their press release only referred to the above flights, however I suspect that their Zurich-Boston service will be cancelled as well:

LX52: Zurich – Boston

LX53: Boston – Zurich

No word yet from Lufthansa, Brussels or Austrian, however I suspect all of their flights for the Northeast to be cancelled for January 26 and January 27.

If your flights over the coming days are affected, please use this link to find your local SWISS customer service center so that you can be reaccomodated.

SWISS: Your Eyes Can Win You Business Class Tickets To Switzerland!

SWISS: Your Eyes Can Win You Business Class Tickets To Switzerland!

SWISS has joined with artist Gerry Hofstetter to bring a unique perspective to a variety of European cities.    Using monuments around Europe as his ‘canvas’ and Eyes as his subject, he is attempting to convey a message of greater attentiveness to the things that surround us.

With this effort, SWISS is asking for your participation in the project and in return will award 6 lucky winners each with a pair of Business Class tickets for travel to Switzerland.  The contest is open to residents of the US and Europe (except for those residing in France, Italy or the Republic of San Marino).   To enter, all you have to do is take a ‘selfie’ of your eyes and upload it via the Contest Entry Page.    Your ‘Eyefie’ will be used in a ‘Grand Finale’ exhibit in Zurich.

All submissions will be gathered and a random drawing will take place in April to award the 6 vouchers.   The deadline for entering is Midnight, March 31, 2015 (Central Euro Time).

The terms and conditions are vague (as usual), but basically state that each winner will receive a voucher good for Biz class tickets from a USA gateway.   The expiration of the vouchers is not clear, but don’t let that stop you from entering!  The details can be sorted out later!

LUFTHANSA Expanding Use Of BioFuel In 2015

LUFTHANSA Expanding Use Of BioFuel In 2015

On the heels of successful development and testing, LUFTHANSA is set to expand their BioFuel efforts to a new airport for 2015.

Beginning in March, Lufthansa will begin to use a blended Biofuel Kerosene on all flights that depart from Oslo, Norway.   This will cover nearly 5,000 departures from Oslo flown by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels and Germanwings.   The blended fuel will be provided by Statoil, a Norwegian energy company.

Oslo will be the first airport in the world that will have continuous availability of Bio-Kerosene as plans call for 2.5 million gallons to be delivered to Oslo and pumped directly through it’s refueling infrastructure throughout the year.

As part of this long term development process, Lufthansa had previously tested the use of BioFuel on regularly scheduled flights between Frankfurt and Hamburg for a year and a half as well as on a long-haul test flight between Frankfurt and Washington DC back in 2012.

Lufthansa has been working on a BioFuel alternative for several years and during that time had run extensive testing on a variety of blends from several providers.   The challenge has never been the effectiveness or safety of BioFuel but rather finding a sustainable long term supply solution.   The key to BioFuel’s future success will depend heavily on Lufthansa’s ability to build a reliable network of suppliers who can source the fuel and meet stringent and consistent criteria as to it’s quality.

SWISS Giving Away Free Trip During Its ’12 Days Of SWISSness’ Contest

SWISS Giving Away Free Trip During Its ’12 Days Of SWISSness’ Contest

Starting today and continuing for the next 12 days, SWISS is hosting a contest that will award its winner a Ski Trip to St. Moritz.

Included in the prize package:

2 Economy Class SWISS tickets from any of LX’s USA gateways.

5 nights accommodation at the Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

4 days of lift tickets.

2 8-day First Class Swiss rail passes.

In addition to the Grand Prize, SWISS will be giving away a prize each day between now and December 25 based on the entries that are received.   To enter the contest, please click here.

The terms/conditions are not very clear when it comes to the daily prize.  It does not clearly spell out whether or not you need to enter each day in order to win that day’s prize.    There is only language about ‘1 entry per drawing’, so I’m assuming that each day during the contest  is considered a separate ‘Drawing’.

In addition, the contest allows you to share your entry with your Friends on Social Media and for every additional entry that you recruit, you’ll get another entry for yourself!

The contest is open to US residents Only.
