Avgeek Special: Watch A Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 Freighter Taxi To The Ramp

Avgeek Special: Watch A Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 Freighter Taxi To The Ramp

A few weeks ago while in Frankfurt as part of the FlyerTalk / Vielfliegertreff  ‘Advent-Do’,  I had arranged for our group to take a tour of Lufthansa’s Cargo facility.   The tour gave us on a thorough behind the scenes look at their operation.  We were able walk through their warehouses as well visit the ramp where we had the opportunity to board one of their newest 777 Freighters prior to it being loaded.   I’ll have much more on the event, including photos from the 777-F, over the next few days as I get caught up.

For now, as a ‘teaser’,  I’ll share a video that I was able to take while on the LH Cargo ramp.    The video shows the arrival of an MD-11F to her ramp in Frankfurt and I had a chance to stand right next to her as she came in…..

Enjoy!

SWISS Giving Away Free Trip During Its ’12 Days Of SWISSness’ Contest

SWISS Giving Away Free Trip During Its ’12 Days Of SWISSness’ Contest

Starting today and continuing for the next 12 days, SWISS is hosting a contest that will award its winner a Ski Trip to St. Moritz.

Included in the prize package:

2 Economy Class SWISS tickets from any of LX’s USA gateways.

5 nights accommodation at the Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

4 days of lift tickets.

2 8-day First Class Swiss rail passes.

In addition to the Grand Prize, SWISS will be giving away a prize each day between now and December 25 based on the entries that are received.   To enter the contest, please click here.

The terms/conditions are not very clear when it comes to the daily prize.  It does not clearly spell out whether or not you need to enter each day in order to win that day’s prize.    There is only language about ‘1 entry per drawing’, so I’m assuming that each day during the contest  is considered a separate ‘Drawing’.

In addition, the contest allows you to share your entry with your Friends on Social Media and for every additional entry that you recruit, you’ll get another entry for yourself!

The contest is open to US residents Only.

BRUSSELS Airlines Forced To Cancel Flights Thanks to Belgian Air Traffic Controllers

BRUSSELS Airlines Forced To Cancel Flights Thanks to Belgian Air Traffic Controllers

Thanks to the cancer of strikes that continues to spread throughout Europe in the past weeks, BRUSSELS Airlines has become the latest victim.

Due to a 24 hour strike by Belgium’s Air Traffic Controllers set to begin Sunday night at 10p local time, BRUSSELS has been forced to cancel ALL flights for the duration of the strike.

Apparently some of the 745 Belgocontrol employees are jealous of other striking colleagues throughout Europe and want their 24 hours of fame…..

To help passengers deal with the consequences, BRUSSELS has increased the staffing at their customer service centers to help make other arrangements.   BRUSSELS has also extend their customer service center hour to accommodate those needing to amend their travels.   Passengers will have the ability to rebook their travel to an earlier or later date or they can request a complete refund of their fare.

If you are in the USA and are affected by the strike you can reach their service center on 1.866.308.2230.    For contact information for other countries, please visit this Brussels webpage which will give you an index to all of the contact phone numbers.
