Lufthansa is running a bit of a fare sale for travel between the US and Europe that has a couple of attractive options. The best being Chicago-Budapest for only $779.
In addition to the ORD-BUD deal, New York to Frankfurt can be had for only $939. Otherwise fares from most USA gateways to a variety of European destinations fall into the $1300-1500 range.
The fare sale runs until July 10, 2014. Departures must take place between August 24 and October 25, 2014 and return travel must take place between August 31, 2014 and January 25, 2015. Tickets must be purchased 14 days ahead of departure and a minimum stay of 7 days is required.
Please keep in mind that flights for this fare sale may be operated by Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS or United. I mention this because the miles you earn for your frequent flyer plans can vary greatly based on which airline is operating your flight. With discount fares such as these, it’s not unusual to earn 50% of the miles travel or in some cases NO miles are earned. Please check you program’s earning charts!

SWISS is running an attractive Business Class sale for travel originating in Zurich to a variety of destinations in Asia, The Middle East and even South America!
During the promotion, fares are at least 50% off of their regular rates and in some cases near 60% off (Zurich – Sao Paulo). The window for this sale is open until July 14. Departures must take place between July 1 and August 31 and return flights must take place by September 8. A Saturday or Sunday night stay is required as part of the terms/conditions.
Example fares (All fares in Swiss CHF):
Bangkok : 2499.
Delhi: 2499.
Hong Kong 2499.
Beijing – 1999.
Johannesburg – 3499.
Sao Paulo – 2499.
Shanghai – 2499.
Considering the wonderful Business Class product offered by SWISS, fares like this are a great value and do not come up often, at least to this level of discount. I assume these fares will be limited so take advantage of them as soon as possible!
There is also a bit of a sale to USA destinations with most fares ranging between 3200-3700CHF to most East Coast destinations and slightly higher to Chicago and the west coast. Though decent, these fares are obviously not as attractive as fares to Asia and the Middle East. Clicking on the link above, or banner below will take to the the home page for both fare sales.

LUFTHANSA is running a First Class fare sale between the USA and Europe with fares as low as $5200.
As is typical for any fare sale, prices from the East Coast are lower than if originating from the West Coast. From example, Boston to Brussels is only $5239 while other East Coast origins range between $5500 and $6000. From the West Coast fares begin from $6500 (San Francisco-Madrid) and work their way up to $6800 (Los Angeles – Naples).
The fare sale runs until August 2. Departures need to take place between July 22 and August 30 and return travel must take place between July 23 and November 30. Tickets need to be purchased at least 28 days in advance.
One word of caution, be aware of the carriers operating your flights. This fare structure is set up so that flights can be operated by United, Austrian, Air Canada, SWISS, Brussels and Lufthansa.
If you are going to pay $6000 to cross the Atlantic in first class, PLEASE make sure that your flight is operated by LUFTHANSA or SWISS for the transatlantic portion.
Crossing the Atlantic with one of the other carriers will preclude you from many First Class perks afforded to LH and LX First Class passengers, including the use of First Class Lounges in New York, Germany, Switzerland and the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt. Remember, part of the value of these fares is having access to fantastic on-the-ground amenities!
If you need any more info or advice as to how to build a perfect First Class trip, please let me know and I’ll help you make the most of it! 🙂

Lufthansa has just announced a 3 day fare sale that ends on June 18 and is valid for travel between October 2014 through June 2015.
The best fare is between New York (JFK or Newark) and Istanbul for only $569. Aside from the Istanbul deal, other fares from most US gateways range between $800 and $1000, with east coast fares being on the lower end of this range.
As far as travel windows are concerned, departures must take place between October 26, 2014 and March 19, 2015 and return travel must take place between November 2, 2014 and June 19, 2015. These fares ARE NOT VALID between December 16, 2014 and January 6, 2015.
As you search for your flights, you’ll see that Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Air Canada, Brussels and United Airlines are all part of the fare sale so your flights may be operated by any one of these carriers.
Keep this in mind as you pick your flights since the miles you earn for your Frequent Flyer Program will vary widely based on which airline is operating your flight!

Over the past few weeks, there has been a flurry of deals to places like Copenhagen and other northern European destinations for winter travel on LUFTHANSA and other Star Alliance members.. Most of the these deals have been for travel originating from the East Coast of the USA, primarily NYC and Washington DC.
Last night, as I was scouring the ‘Matrix’ and Google Flights I found that Oslo is getting attention from Lufthansa and United with attractive fares for November/December travel. In many cases, you can fly between Newark and Oslo for $530-$560 and there’s even a non-stop United option that is available for a bit of convenience.
These low fares are available for trips as short as 2 days to trips taking 3+ weeks and everything in between. For trips that are 2-3 days long, the best fare inventory that I could find was for Friday departures. If you’re planning on a longer trip, look for Tuesday and Thursday departures from the USA as they are yielding the best fares. Leaving on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday brought fares up to $800+.
Yes it may be Winter in Oslo as far as these fares are concerned, but that shouldn’t preclude you from taking advantage of the deal! 🙂
