OK, this Business Fare sale is not nearly as good as the “Great Fare War of April 2014” where we saw a myriad of Business Class fares to Europe for as low as $1500. However, the fares in this sale are still attractive and are about 50% lower than usual. Additionally, the travel window is quite large giving you plenty of opportunities.
The fare sale runs until July 2, 2014. Departures must take place between June 27 and August 30 and return flights must take place between July 7 and November 30. Tickets must be purchased 60 days ahead of your desired departure date.
Most fares from Lufthansa’s East Coast Gateways start in the high $2000 range, with the best deals coming from New York to Munich for only $2900. Otherwise, you’ll see fares along the east coast ranging in the low $3000 area. West Coast departures (LAX and SFO) run in the mid $6000 range making it less attractive than an East Coast departure.
In looking at some sample bookings, there are several instances where the flights are actually operated by United or Air Canada, so be mindful when booking your tickets especially if you are looking to enjoy LH’s hospitality. Another reason to pay attention to the operating carrier is because of the miles that you may OR MAY NOT earn for your frequent flyer program. The fares for this sale are booking into ‘P’ class which is a deep discount Business fare class. As the saying goes, Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) based on the frequent flyer program that you credit miles to.

EDIT: Initially I wrote about Business Fare deals only to Italy, but after looking at more options, other European destinations such as Paris and London have similar deals available!
EDIT 2: This is not a Fare error situation. The fares are valid as long as seats are available.
This certainly looks to be a fantastic but short term offer, but for the time being you can book BUSINESS CLASS travel on Lufthansa from the USA to several cities in EUROPE for only $1500 R/T. This is about 25-30% of what the normal Business Class fare would be between the US and Italy. It’s almost like getting Business Class for the price of economy!
When pricing like this happens, it may be very short lived so you may want to take advantage of the deals in the next few hours. Looking at sample bookings, available is fairly wide open from late June through early August and a variety of cities in Europe seem to be eligible, including Paris, Rome, Venice, London and others.
Let me know if you have any luck taking advantage of some excellent pricing! It looks like booking is also possible Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, United and Air Canada.
Looks like a 60 day advance ticket purchase is required as well as a Saturday or Sunday night stay.

Lufthansa announced earlier today a fare sale from the USA to Budapest that has fares ranging between $800 and $1100 from most US Gateways.
The best deal that I could find was $805 from Houston (IAH) which was even a few dollars less than Lufthansa’s advertised rate of $829. Most East Coast departures range between $950 and $1050, while most of the West Coast fares are in the $1100-1150 range.
The fare sale ends on April 10 and is valid for the following travel dates:
Departures must take place between April 29 and May 15, 2014
Returns must take place between May 6 and August 15, 2014.
Tickets must be purchased 14 days prior to departure.
As always, please be mindful of which airline will actually be operating your flight. For this promo, Lufthansa, United, Air Canada and SWISS are all potential carriers so plan accordingly. The airlines you fly go a long way in determining the quality of your flights as well as determining the kind of miles that you will earn for your Frequent Flyer programs. Fares like this normally are coded as discount or deep-discount economy fares and in some cases may earn little or no miles for you. From time to time, Lufthansa will increase ‘inventory’ of deeply discounted tickets for travel within Europe during a particular timeframe.
With the latest edition, Lufthansa has made available 1 million tickets for round trip travel within Europe for as little as €99. There is a large variety of destinations to choose from as a result of this sale. For this particular offering, departures need to take place from either Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf or Berlin.
This fare deal runs only through Sunday, March 23 and a few date restrictions apply:
- Your outbound flight must take place between May 1 and July 31.
- Your return flight must take place between May 2 and October 31.
A sale like this is a great opportunity to bolt on an additional piece to your itinerary if you are visiting from the States or if you already live in Europe, it’s a very economical way to enjoy a weekend getaway.

The fare sale for travel between the USA and India is set to expire on March 17 and fares will be poised to increase $200-400 from their current rate. In looking through all the flight options, the best deal is for travel between Washington DC (IAD) and Mumbai where you can find fares for under $900.
In fact, Washington DC is the lowest priced US gateway for travel to all of Lufthansa’s India destinations during this promotion. Looking at competitor pricing, its apparent there is a minor ‘fare-war’ from Washington to India.
Other US gateways offer competitive pricing with East Coast departures running in the very low $1000 area while West Coast departures start in the mid $1300 range.
The details of the fare sale are as follows:
- Departures must take place between March 29 and May 12, 2014.
- Return travel must take place between March 30 and May 13, 2014.
- Tickets must be purchased 14 days prior to departure.
Please be mindful of 2 things when booking this fare. One, this is a discount economy fare so you may not earn full mileage credit towards your Frequent Flyer Program. My 2 cents?? I would fly from Washington DC not only because of the low fare, but also because you’ll have an opportunity to experience the Boeing 747-8i that serves on the route. In addition to ‘IAD’, you can also find the 747-8i flying from Chicago and Los Angeles.
